BETTY PETERSON June 3, 1918 - January 12, 2012 Peacefully, surrounded by her family, Betty passed away at her home. She was predeceased by Walter, her husband of nearly 70 years. She will be greatly missed by her children Jim (Jan), Peggy, Shirley (Bruce), Harold (Marilyn), grandson Jeff, special friends Marg, Maryann and Olga, as well as numerous relatives and friends. Betty was born near Ashern, Manitoba, the youngest of six children. At a young age, she moved with her family to the Bird's Hill area where she met Walter. She and Walter resided in East St. Paul for most of their married life. Betty was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was an avid gardener and curler. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her kindness and honesty. Everyone was always welcome in her home. The family wish to extend a special thank you to doctors John Ducas and Wayne Poon and their staffs as well as the home care workers who provided exceptional care which allowed mom to stay in her home. Mom requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Cystic Fibrosis Canada or the charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place. At Betty's request, no service will be held. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Betty was a devoted wife and loving mother. When her family was young, she could easily do several loads of laundry with a wringer washer, hang them on the line, all while baking cookies and keeping an eye on four active children. She worked in the garden as hard as any man, picking cucumbers or tomatoes, or hoeing, have a healthy dinner on the table for her family and entertain friends in the evening. All this in just a single twenty four hour day, and she made it look easy. She was a caring daughter, a supportive sister and an exemplary role model to the generation that followed her. I will always remember her for the amazing woman she was and the life lessons she taught me. - Posted by: Darlene Watts (Niece) on: Jan 16, 2012

  • Your mom was a super nice lady who was always a very kind person. She had a very good sense of humour...well at least she laughed honestly at all of Walter's and Harold's corny jokes! Harold once commented there were "lots of Lots for Sale"..pretty dumb but your mom must have laughed about that for two days. I remember thinking what a good mom to make her son feel good about a silly pun! I remember her giving Harold and I a can of beans so we could heat it on a fire we made in your front yard. She watched from the window to make sure we didn't explode it in our faces, then just smiled and enjoyed kids having fun. She was very good at always being there but not being there. I hope that makes sense. It was like if you needed something she was there, if you didn't she was content to be "invisible". Quite a remarkable person. You were very fortunate to have her with you all that time. Don't be sad, just reflect and enjoy. - Posted by: Herb & Carol Sulkers (friends) on: Jan 15, 2012
