BILL MCKAY On Thursday January 19, 2012, after a brief illness Bill McKay, age 77, passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital ICU. Bill was pre-deceased by his wife, Beverly, in 1997. He leaves to mourn his passing, sister Marion Schroeder; nephews Chris Schroeder (Joanne) Garry Schroeder (Nina), and Paul Schroeder (Cathy, Eric and Joe); as well as niece, Carolyn McFerran (John). Bill began his working life on the railway. He later went to the Federal Government Queen's Printer and then on to become a Power Engineer with the Department of National Defence. After 32 years Bill retired to spending time at Ingolf Ontario and winters in Apache Junction Arizona. He was a private pilot and previously owned his own airplane. Later in life Bill became a self taught PC computer repair expert. Bill Mckay always went his own way in life and he was a very unique guy. He always went about doing things his own special way. Bill was always very cheery, never concerning himself with what others thought. Bill will be missed by his family, many friends in Winnipeg, at his winter home in Apache Junction Arizona, Ingolf Ontario where he had his cabin and especially by his two special dogs Mia and Guy. The family appreciated the special care that was provided to our uncle Bill by the St. Boniface Hospital ICU staff. A memorial service celebrating Bill's life is planned for Saturday, February 18, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue, in care of arrangements. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations can be made in remembrance of Bill to The Winnipeg Humane Society or The Riverview Health Centre.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Having known Bill since the early 50's, it's hard to imagine Winnipeg without him. He was well-liked by all who knew him because he enjoyed their company and always was ready for a good political debate. He loved fishing with the guys and added his own special touch to their evening discussions. We'll miss you, buddy. - Posted by: john jackson (friend of 50+ years) on: Jan 22, 2012
