MARIA RAEDCHER November 24, 1924 - January 21, 2012 Peacefully, with family members at her side, Maria passed away at the age of 87, at Rosewood Residential Care, Langley Memorial Hospital. Maria leaves to mourn her sons Erich (Shirley), Eduard (Fern), grandchildren Christopher (Lindsay), Jonathan, Victoria, Philip, and great-grandson Rivers. Maria is also survived by her brothers Fred (Berta), Alex (Ruth), sisters Josephine (Fred) and Olga, and many nieces and nephews. Maria was born in Kaplanow, Ukraine and overcame many hardships in her early life. Leaving her home during the Second World War, she traveled with her mother, brothers and sisters enroute to Germany where, along the way, she met her husband, Johann, to whom she was married for 55 years until his passing in 1999. To seek out a better life for their family, Maria and John left Germany in 1953 and moved to Winnipeg, MB where she resided until 2008, when she moved to Langley, BC to be closer to her sons and their families. While in Winnipeg, Maria and John worked hard to provide for their family and in their later years successfully operated G M Meats on McGregor Street in Winnipeg for a number years. Maria was always ready with a purse full of candy for any of the nieces and nephews when they were together. Maria was a great cook, and loved to cook and bake and have a house full of people for any occasion. Her greatest love was her family, especially the grandchildren and her newest member, her great-grandson. Maria will be sadly missed by all her family. Memorial services to be determined at a later and will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 65 Walnut St., Winnipeg, MB. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery. Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at Rosewood Residential Care who made her last days comfortable. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Osteoporosis Society.
