Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My father Moby Henderson met Grant through work with the Manitoba Government and always spoke very highly of your father. After retirement my father and mother Norma frequently had coffee and entertaining chats with Grant and Margaret at the Kildonan Mall food court. After my father died my husband Bob and I also enjoyed the company of your parents at the Mall when we took my mother for an outing. Grant was a lovely man, may your memories give you conmfort now and in the future. Melodie, Bob and Norma - Posted by: Melodie Powell () on: Feb 13, 2012

  • I had the great privilege to meet Grant in Calgary a number of years ago to discuss my Grand Father Duncan Rankine. Grant sent several letters to me regarding his experience and how he met my grand father as Grant told me my grandfather pulled him out of the water after the sinking of Lisbon Maru. A remarkable story and a remarkable man. - Posted by: Donald McIsaac (Friend ) on: Feb 06, 2012

  • I worked with Mr. Sheperd for only a short while with the Apprenticeship division, but continued a friendship in Transcona, he brought cream for John at a social outing after he had suffered an ulcer attach. Very fond memories. - Posted by: Linda and John Neufeld (co-worker, his secretary) on: Feb 04, 2012

  • I have many memories of Grant, starting from when I was 11 and my Uncle Brad married Linda Shepherd. I have been to Winnipeg often over the years, and have shared many meals (and Scotch, and Drambuie) with Grant and Margaret. I think he exemplified the hard-working veterans who returned from the horrors of war, and started families, and overcame, but never forgot their experiences. I remember one night in particular when he spoke at some length about his experience as a POW, and how amazed I was that he had not only survived, but had retained such a wonderful sense of humour and was such great company. Grant and Margaret were so kind and generous with their time and companionship with my grandparents, who both were ill and passed away over 10 years ago. I am so grateful to have known Grant. My husband Andrew and I and our three daughters, who Grant also met and enjoyed, send our love and condolences to Margaret, Linda, Brad, and Ian, and also to Moira and Trewin and their family. I will miss him very much, but will keep his memory alive by continuing to tell my children his story, and by having a wee dram now and then with Grant in mind. With love, Jennifer - Posted by: Jennifer and Andrew Scott (My aunt's father) on: Jan 29, 2012
