E. GORDON LOWEN Gordon passed away on January 25, 2012, at the age of 102 years. In sadness he leaves his son Kerby (Maeva) Lowen of Qualicum Beach, B.C. and his sisters Bertha and Irene Lowen of Chilliwack, B.C. and Anne Hopcraft of Winnipeg, MB. He also leaves his grandchildren Heather (Damian) Lowen of Edmonton, AB, Jackson Lowen of Shanghai, China, Anice (John) Steel of Decatur, Georgia and his great-grandchildren, Kieran Paton-Lowen, Charlotte Paton-Lowen and Ross Steel. Gordon was predeceased by his son William Lowen and his wife Katherine Lowen. Gordon was born November 23, 1909, on a south Manitoba farm. By the time he was 12 years old he was in the newspaper and advertising business in Chrystal City, Manitoba. During the war, Gordon started and edited the A15 Link, a weekly newspaper for soldiers stationed in Shilo and deployed overseas. On December 26, 1942, Gordon and Katherine married at Knox United Church in Winnipeg. At that time Gordon began the E. Gordon Lowen and Co. that was a success for over 30 years. Gordon was a member of the Millennium #182 Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Director of Staff of the Shrine Khartum Temple. He belonged to the Ft. Garry Rotary and was honoured as a Life Member. The Rotary International named Gordon as a Paul Harris Fellow in appreciation of his service. Gordon was also awarded an Honorary Life Membership to the Winnipeg Executives Association. Gordon will always be remembered for his smile and firm handshake, for his skills at snooker and bridge, and as a consummate gentleman. His family in particular will recall fondly time spent at Caddy Lake fishing, swimming, assembling puzzles and playing cards with Grandpa Gord. A memorial service will be held in the summer. A notice will be made closer to the date.
