Date of Passing: Jan 27, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN HAYDUK (nee SHUPENIA) August 27, 1922 - January 27, 2012 It is with profound sadness that the family of Jean Hayduk, of Stony Mountain (formerly of Fraserwood), announces her peaceful passing on Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Seven Oaks Hospital, at the age of 89 years. Mom was blessed with four wonderful children, five adorable grandchildren and two great-grandsons. They were the pride and joy of her life and she loved them all dearly. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her son Jerry (Debbie Zazulinski), Jordan and Holly; daughter Eileen (Jerry Sutyla), Shannon, Kyle (Dana Ryz), great-grandsons Carter and Easton Sutyla; son Ronnie (Judy Sorokowski), Jenna; daughter Gracie (Jim Swaykoski), and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Clifford (1971), infant son Richard (1951), father Alex Shupenia (1959), mother Mary (1994), grandfather John Seniuk (1951), grandmother Maggie (1955), aunts Rose O'Connell (1989), Lena Alfonso (1994), Katie Seniuk (1995), father-in-law Mykieta Hayduk (1951) and mother-in-law Jewka (1955). Mom was born in Polson, MB and lived there until she was five before moving to Malonton and then to Winnipeg. She received her education at Brooklands School and then went on to work at Dyson's Pickle Factory and Amos' Green House with her mother until moving back to Malonton in 1941. In her own words, this move was a real disaster until she met Clifford Hayduk at a family wedding. Three years later, on November 5, 1944 they were married. They farmed the Hayduk family farm until 1951 before selling and moving to Sarnia, Ontario for one year. When they returned, they bought Fred Rattai's farm west of Fraserwood where Mom worked hard alongside Dad to make a better life for their family. After Dad's passing, Mom continued to farm with her sons. She also worked at the Gimli Base and Gimli Hospital before moving back to Winnipeg and working as a housekeeper for seven years before retiring in 1987. After retiring, Mom's niece Mavis Kaluzny, got her involved with crafts which included painting Ukrainian Easter eggs, doing dough crafts and various other projects. Through this, she met her many Eaton's employee friends who she would meet weekly for coffee and sell her prized creations. Mom was a caring, generous and loving person, always worrying and thinking of others before herself. Mom's unwavering faith saw her through many difficult challenges throughout her life. Mom was a resident of the Stony Mountain Hill Top Manor for the past two years and we would like to thank Suzanne Durston for the meal program at the Manor. Mom enjoyed and looked so forward to the delicious meals that she prepared. We would like to also express our heartfelt thanks to Cathy Rudyk at the Stonewall Community Health Office, all of the nurses and caregivers for all their help and support, enabling Mom to live an independent life till her journey's end. The family would like to thank Dr. D. Venter, the Stonewall Hospital staff, paramedics and especially the wonderful and compassionate nursing staff at the Seven Oaks Hospital on the 4th Floor U1 and U2 for everything that they have done to get the family through this trying time. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Gimli, MB. Interment to follow at the St. Francis Cemetery west of Fraserwood. Father Peter Chorney officiating. Viewing half hour prior to the service. Active Pallbearers will be Jordan Hayduk, Bill Shupenia, Mike Shupenia, Jerry Sutyla, Kyle Sutyla and Jim Swaykoski. Honorary Pallbearers Leonard Evanchyshin, Max Orzechowski and Kevin Zazulinski. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Stony Mountain Hilltop Manor Meal Program c/o J. Hayduk, Box 25, Stony Mountain, MB R0C 3A0 or the St. Francis Cemetery c/o Kevin Zazulinski, Box 155, Fraserwood, MB R0C 1A0. Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli in care of arrangements.
