Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH (KEIMPE) MEDGYES 1942 - 2012 Most assuredly I say to you, whoever hears what I say and believes in Him who sent me has everlasting life. That person will not be judged guilty but has passed from death and entered life. John 5:24 Peacefully on the morning of Saturday, January 28, 2012, surrounded by his family, our dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother was called home to be with his Lord and Saviour after a lengthy and valiant struggle with cancer. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 47 years, Patricia; daughter Suzanne (Mark); son Edward (Rita); and daughter Julia; grandchildren, Max, Blake, Liam, Jessica, Jacob, and Genevieve; siblings Ed (Bonnie), Lydia (Murray), Toos, Aafke (Noel), Liz (Doug), Sidney, Imre (Brenda) Juliska (Albert), Fred, and Pietsje (Cor); relatives Oom Dirk, Foty DeVries, John and Annie DeVries, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Imre and Tjitske. Ken was born on August 20, 1942, in Niewe Bildtdyk, St. Anna Parochie, Friesland, the Netherlands. He grew up in the town of Berlikum and was the eldest of ten children. At age 17 he worked on a ship as a cook's assistant and travelled to many countries. At age 18 he was called to serve in the Dutch army. In 1963, close to his 21st birthday, Ken immigrated to Winnipeg with his family and in 1964, married Patricia (Truus) DeVries. Together they had three children, Suzanne, Edward and Julia. Ken worked for the Bake Oven, Eatons, Dunwoody C.C.H., Western Restaurant Supply, Debronis, Manitoba Rolling Mills, and Mandak. From 1975 to 2000, he also kept a tax preparation service. Officially retired in 2000, he continued bookkeeping part-time for various firms including The Carver's Knife. He had a very inquisitive mind, showing interest in many areas. His favourites were photography, gardening, woodworking and most of allcomputers. He had an insatiable appetite for learning and reading, especially in God's word. Ken was diagnosed with cancer in October 2008. He belonged to his Lord Jesus Christ and his church community was the Transcona Christian Reformed Church. Ken, along with his family, offers a special thanks to Dr. P. Czaykowski, nurse Denise K., and the many nurses at CancerCare who helped during his illness. We also thank Dr. Brad Amson of Victoria, B.C., and the wonderful staff of the Palliative Care team including nurse Richard and Dr. T. St. Goddard. You were all compassionate and professional and we are grateful for your gentle care. We especially extend our heartfelt gratitude to Herman (Mary) Zwiers, his dear brother in Christ, who spent countless hours ministering to, praying, and fellowshipping with Dad. Ken was a testimony to his faith and displayed great courage throughout the trying times. His example to family and friends will be a lasting memory. A celebration of Ken's life will take place at Transcona Christian Reformed Church, 131 Victoria Avenue West on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at 2:00 p.m.
