ELSIE (OLESIA) HYKAWY (nee LEOCHKO) Peacefully, with family by her side, Elsie passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital on Saturday, January 28, 2012. Elsie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter Donna; sisters Mary and Rosie (Walter); brothers Pete (Bertha) and Mike (Evelyn); brother-in-law Joe; closest nieces Lana and Lovie (Laurence), and many nieces, nephews and friends. Elsie was predeceased by her parents Yustyna and John; husband Bill; son Ronnie; daughter Krys; sisters Anne (Peter) and Pearl (Walter); sister-in-law Teeny, and brother-in-law Nick. Elsie was born in Poplarfield, Manitoba on August 20, 1934. She came to Winnipeg in 1950 where she attended Nu-Fashion School of Hairdressing. After graduating she went to Sioux Lookout to work for a year. Upon returning to Winnipeg, she started working at The American House of Beauty for 12 years and then at Beauty Makers. She retired in 1976. At the age of 18 she met her husband Bill (the love of her life) and were married in October of 1953. Special thanks to the staff on the fourth floor Unit 2 for their care and compassion. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, February 1 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with funeral services on Thursday, February 2, 10:30 a.m., at Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 965 Boyd Ave. A private family interment will take place at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
