JAMES A. TEASE January 8, 1923 - January 28, 2012 Jim died peacefully at Concordia Hospital, following a stroke, on Saturday, January 28, 2012 surrounded by the love of his family. Born on Noble Avenue, Winnipeg, to Maude and Sam Tease, Jim grew up on Ottawa Avenue. There he delivered newspapers, played hockey on the rink his family and neighbours built across from their home. Jim spent summers on Gordon Cram's farm near Darlingford, MB. As a young adult, Jim joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. He served in the Second World War as a pilot with the 420 Snowy Owl Squadron and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He continued to be involved with the Wartime Pilots' and Observers' Association. Jim received his Degree in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba, worked for the Manitoba Provincial Government Department of Rural Assessment. He enjoyed working in rural and remote areas of Manitoba, making lasting friendships with co-workers and their families. Jim and his wife Doris met while working at Canada Packers. They married May 4, 1951, and lived in many small communities in Manitoba until they settled on Chelsea Avenue where they spent many happy years raising their family, surrounded by a great group of close friends and neighbours. During their retirement years they spent winters in Texas and were active in the community there. Jim lovingly helped care for Doris at home until her death in December of 2004. Jim served his community through his involvement with Immanuel United Church in Winnipeg and the United Methodist Church in Huntington, Texas. He had a special interest in helping with their food banks. He was a dedicated blood donor, donating over 100 units of blood in Canada and the USA. He developed and maintained many important friendships throughout his life. Jim was fortunate to have a good friend in Bob Arbuckle, who he thought of like a brother. In the past few years, he was reunited with his friend Lois Pirt. He enjoyed her companionship and looked forward to their day trips. Jim was an active person who enjoyed doing things outdoors, such as hunting, fishing, swimming, yard work and, of course, walking, which he was known to do every day. He remained active and independent until recently. He also had a life-long love of reading books. He will be remembered by his sister, Helena Darchuk of Scobey, Montana; brother-in-law, Denis Pelepchuk of Thunder Bay, ON; sister-in-law Mary Phillips of Winnipeg; and nieces and nephew Linda Phillips, Carol Lynne and Kenneth Darchuk, and Crystal and Natalie Pelepchuk. He was a loving and supportive father. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will always cherish his memory: Rick and Bonny Tease, their children Sam and Sarah (Matthew and Ben), Tyler and Jolene (Magdalen), Trisha and Craig (Sam); Colleen and John McConnell, their children Bill, Tim, Laura and Chris (Luke and Violet); Gregg Tease, his children Jeffrey and Chandra, Samantha and Nic, and their mother Sandra. Heartfelt thanks to Rev. Nancy Sanders and the congregation of Immanuel United, Dr. Denis Caners and staff of Concordia Hospital. A memorial service will be held at Immanuel United Church, Kimberly Avenue and Golspie Street, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2012. Flowers gratefully declined, but if you wish, donations can be made to Immanuel United Church or a charity of choice.

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Grandpa Jim was a wonderful man, devoted husband, father and grandfather - and let's not forget "Our Very Own Egg Man". They just don't come any better! My family and I truly appreciate having known him (and Doris) and to have so many fond memories of Chelsea Ave, Ottawa Ave, Lac Du Bonnet, as well as our many great camping adventures. I loved receiving our "personal and heartfelt Christmas Cards" from Grandma and Grandpa Tease - they were always the best! My Mom (Joyce) also extends her regards, she is saddened she was not able to make service because of her own circumstance. Our deepest condolences at this sad time. God Bless Grandpa Jim, Rest in Peace. - Posted by: Donna (nee Fedora) and Bruce Brunton (Extended Family and Friend) on: Feb 04, 2012

  • We send our blessings and condolences to you, the family of our friend Jim. Although we are sorry to be on holidays and miss the celebration of such a good life lived, we feel blessed to have had visits with him over the past few months. When we left our final visit at Riverview about two weeks ago, we were amazed at his interest in us and especially Nancy and Immanuel. We will miss his quiet, respectful manner and approach to life, especially sitting in the seat behind us at worship. Bob and Muriel - Posted by: Bob and Muriel Kenyon () on: Feb 04, 2012

  • Sincerest condolences - Posted by: Bill and Marguerita Chrustie (Friend) on: Feb 03, 2012

  • Jim (and Doris) were great folks to have in the neighbourhood. Along with Sherman & Pearl Silver, they always made us feel welcome on Chelsea Ave. The familiar sight of Jim ambling up and down the block, or working away in the yard will truly be missed, as well as chats in the backl ane or when he would pop by to pick a few bags of apples. My deepest sympathies to Jim's family. I feel both fortunate and honoured to have been an acquaintance of Jim's these past seventeen years. - Posted by: Alan, Graham, & Duncan Cox (neighbours) on: Feb 03, 2012

  • (excerpts) I was lucky to have flown with Jim, we got along well together and think we helped each other to weather the storm of WW2 flying. I had no seat and stood beside him as we dodged the flack, and wondered how we would get through yet again. So I have a bond with your Dad that the years do not degrade, a respect for him and his flying skills, that brought us through to a long life, not enjoyed by many others. - Posted by: Reg Miles (flight engineer, ''E-easy") on: Feb 03, 2012

  • Jim was a true gentleman. He always made a point of dropping in on us at the office here in Brandon and having a chat. It was always great to see him...godspeed. • I honor Jim in a life well lived. There was so much between the lines. He was such a gentle, caring and positive person. I first met him when we were in our teens, and even then he was special. To think that he flew a Lancaster with all the perils that entailled in the lat war is Awesome. He was ever so quiet about his accomplishments. He was a true Gentleman. - Posted by: Vera McLean (Aquintince) on: Feb 02, 2012
