WILLIAM KOMARNYCKY William Komarnycky peacefully passed on to his eternal resting place at the age of 90 years on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 8:50 p.m. CST. Born on January 8, 1922, William Komarnycky is predeceased by his beloved wife Olga (Czekajlo) Komarnycky; his parents Eva and Mykola Komarnycky and two sisters Anna and Kasia. William is survived by his two children, Lesia (Ian) McCarron of Winnipeg and Oliver Nicholas (Christine) Komarnycky of Kitchener, ON and grandfather to Jefferey (Gabriela) and Michael (Cassandra) McCarron and Zachary and Megan Komarnycky. William is also survived by his brother Ivan Komarnycky and family in Husne, Ukraine. William grew up in the Ukraine and came to Canada in 1948 from Austria as a young man and began his life by living in Bissett, MB working as a miner at the San Antonio Gold Mine for 3 and a half years. He moved to Winnipeg and attended school to upgrade his skills at Manitoba Technical Institute for one year. Upon successful completion he worked at ACME Sash and Door for a further five years prior to starting his own business, Transcona Cabinet. In 1964 he went to work at the Canadian National Railway and retired in 1985. Our Tato and Dido loved his church, the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Mary the Protectress and served on several committees. He was a past Board Member of St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Millenium Villa, past president of St. Andrews Brotherhood, and an Honorary Life Member of St. Mary's Brotherhood. William (Tato), in his younger years, loved to travel with his family in his motor home and enjoyed fishing with his grandsons. He enjoyed looking after his garden and was very handy fixing and building a variety of projects including simply puttering around the house and finding something new to do. In 1991, Tato achieved his goal and was able to return to the Ukraine to visit family and friends after a 50 year absence. Together with his wife (Mama), Tato enjoyed having company and loved being with people. His faith, Ukrainian language, customs and traditions were very important to him and both Tato and Mama instilled the love of their mother tongue and their Church to their children and grandchildren. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 3 at St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 820 Burrows Ave., Winnipeg. Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4 also at the Cathedral with The Rev. Fr. Alexander Harkavyj officiating. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Cemetery.
