JACK BRIAN BARTLEY
Born: Apr 17, 1938
Date of Passing: Jan 26, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJACK BRIAN BARTLEY April 17, 1938 - January 26, 2012 It is with great sadness that the family of Jack Bartley announce his passing on January 26, 2012 of heart complications during surgery, at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC. He will be forever missed by his daughter, Deborah, sons Ken (Katherine), Wade (Molly), and Bryan (Angie); their mother Lillian Bartley, and his grandsons, Case, Carson and Shilo. He will also be missed by his brothers and sisters, including the immediate and extended families of Gary and Elaine Bartley; Gerry Bartley; Theresa Bartley; Shirley and Johnny Chester; Linda Bartley; Barney Carlisle and his many nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his parents Nelson and Gladys Bartley, brothers Rodney and Del, and sister Frances Carlisle. Jack was raised in rural Manitoba near Killarney, and also in Winnipeg. He held dear his memories of his childhood and growing up with his siblings. His children were always excited to visit his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Our dad started his career with Manitoba Hydro where he enjoyed a long career as a Journeyman Lineman. He started a new career in Appliance repair and he practised this trade in Killarney and Dauphin. He was an able and ingenious handyman. He realized his dream of moving to the west coast of Canada to be near the mountains and ocean. He moved to Nanaimo, BC in 2009 to be close with his family. Dad loved playing cribbage, coffee shops and a good joke. We will truly miss his smile and care-free attitude. He had a great laugh and was always there to lend a helping hand. He had open heart surgery when he was 40 years old and as the years passed, his heart became weaker, but you would never know it. He was happy, joking and his regular self the day of his planned second surgery. We will always remember that positive, no quit attitude and love for life, family and friends. Our family plans a private gathering on Vancouver Island where we will celebrate his life. As Jack would say: Take Care of Each Other , and so his children would like to honour his legacy by encouraging everyone to celebrate the ones who contribute to who we are, and the moments we spend with them. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

I just found out that Jack had passed away, 2 years ago. I was shocked. I hadn't heard from him for a couple of years. I knew him when he lived in Down's Village Trailer park. I met him years ago at Salisbary House, many years ago. We got to be great friends. When I remarried in 2008, I lost touch with Jack. His sense of humour will be remembered forever. I just thought I'd see if he still lived in Winnipeg, found out on the computer that he had passed away. I have been missing him for a long time, so sorry to hear this. I will never forget him - Posted by: Joyce Janzen (Very Dear friend) on: Aug 26, 2014

Jack was my friend and neighbor. He was always cheerful and just a bright spot in my day. After we moved to other cities we would meet with other former neighbors at a local coffee shop. He was just a joy and will always be remembered by me and my husband! God speed Jack!!! - Posted by: Amy Tiller (neighbor and friend) on: May 02, 2012

My thoughts and prayers are with family and friends. Jack was Best Man at my first wedding to Ken Crosbie. We enjoyed quality time together in our earlier years. Jack stayed in touch by phone after my divorce. Although I have not talked with Jack for a couple of years, he will be in my thoughts forever. Thanks for the great times Jack. Hello My name is Cathy and I knew Jack from Tim Hortons over the past couple of years. He was a lot of fun to chat with. He also came to my open house when I moved. We also shared grandchild stories. He was very proud of his kids and grandkids. We shared photos many times. He would roll his eyes in humor when I would pull out another pack of photos of my grandson. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I am going to miss seeing him at Tim Hortons and his wonderful sense of humour. Sincerely Cathy DiBernardo - Posted by: Cathy DiBernardo (friend) on: Feb 09, 2012

Jack and I became friends quickly, it didn't take me long to figure out that he was fun loving, positive and cheerful all the time. We looked out for each other and played cards ( crib too ) told jokes, and even went for drives together. When he got his computer then we sent jokes and pictures across the country to one another. To stay in touch we chatted on the phone from time to time. I will miss you Jack. - Posted by: Carol Wold (Friend of 12 years) on: Feb 08, 2012
