THOMAS E. HANAWAY October 29, 1924 - February 1, 2012 On Wednesday, February 1, 2012, Tom passed away at Fred Douglas Lodge. Tom is survived by his wife Grace; son Tom Jr.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Hanaway; brothers Walter and Murray, and only daughter Louise. During the Second World War Dad was a petty officer in the Royal Canadian Navy VS 2657, and served from 1942 to his discharge in 1945. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 238, Ear Falls, Ontario. Dad worked hard all of his life, first with the C.N.R., then as a car salesman, going on to build his family business Lac Suel Airways in Ear Falls, Ontario, making many friends over years following. He sold the business in 1992, afterwards spending the winters in Florida in a house Mom and Dad enjoyed for many years before his Parkinson's forced them to sell the house which they loved dearly. Thank you to all of his caregivers over the years at Fred Douglas Lodge and his doctor, Dr. Louis Chung. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. Donations to a charity of your choice in Tom's memory are appreciated. VICHNAYA PAM'YAT We love you Dad, you will be missed Cropo Funeral Chapel 586-8044

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Met Tom and Grace at age 14 at the Golden Fawn Lodge 1959 on a family fishing vacation. Every year after vacations were spent with Tom and Grace. Continued when Tom moved to a new location on Lac Suel. Watched and helped with the construction of the motel, hanger, and misc. projects. I will never forget the opportunity he gave us to spend at his camp, just wonderful people. Families became close and to this day keep in touch with Tom Jr. and Grace. The stories are so numerous that all I talk about is my experience at his camp. Tom will always be remembered. - Posted by: Russell fF. Iwaniec (Friend) on: Nov 15, 2013

  • I worked as a pilot for Tom for nine years at Lac Seul airways. I lived there with my family for seven of the years. The years working for Tom and Grace were the most memorable of my early aviation career. My family and I were always treated as part of the Hanaway family. Thanks for the memories. - Posted by: Carl Hansson (Friend / Past employee) on: Feb 20, 2012
