Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDA CAROLINE MCKINNON October 4, 1917 February 4, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, sister, aunt and friend, Freda at the Grace Hospital on Saturday, February 4, 2012. Freda was predeceased by her loving husband, Farquhar James (Jim), in 1986; her parents, Jacob and Selma; three sisters Matilda, Elsie, and Bertha; three brothers John, Otto, and Al; nephews Dale, Clinton and Gerald; nieces Doreen and Audrey. Freda is survived by her daughter, Norma (William); and sister Lydia; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. Freda was born in the farming community of Leader, Saskatchewan. She was the second youngest of eight siblings. She finished her schooling in Leader and left home to live in Flin Flon, to work and be near her sister Elsie. While in Flin Flon she met and fell in love with Jim. They married in 1941, and moved to Winnipeg where they lived a happy and busy life with family and many friends. Freda worked at The Bay for 33 years. She was staff supervisor in the grocery department and enjoyed her job and the many regular customers who shopped in the department. She filled her spare time playing bridge, bowling, and entertaining friends and family with her delicious meals. When she retired she took swimming and fitness classes at Sergeant Park Recreation Centre. Freda was an avid knitter and supplied many articles to the Manitoba Crafts Guild store. She was a frequent traveler throughout her life and enjoyed visiting many exotic locations with her friends. In 2005, Freda moved to Sturgeon Creek I Retirement Residence, she adapted quickly to her new lifestyle and was a regular participant in the outings and activities. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A private family service will take place at a later date. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Grace Hospital, and Sturgeon Creek I Retirement Residence for the wonderful care they showed to Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L OK6, or a charity of your choice. Our sympathy to Norma and Bill We enjoyed our years as neighbors with your mom and dad. She baked the most delicious goodies and your dad would quite often come over with something that she had just made. She also knitted the most gorgeous sweater for our daughter Brittany when she was born and it is still a keepsake. They both shared an October birthday and your mom always acknowledged her. She was truly a lovely lady. - Posted by: Joan and Gordon Lasko (Former neighbor on Clifton Street) on: Feb 08, 2012

I met Mrs. McKinnon at Sturgeon Creek I at the Thursday night bingo. She was always a delight to see and she always had a smile on her face. I will miss seeing her and hearing her delightful laugh. My condolences to her family. - Posted by: Sandra Harris (friend) on: Feb 07, 2012
