DONALD (HAPPY) ALEXANDER
Born: Jun 06, 1933
Date of Passing: Feb 04, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD (HAPPY) ALEXANDER June 6, 1933 - February 4, 2012 We are saddened to announce the passing of Don Hap Alexander on February 4, 2012 at the H.S.C. with his family at his side. Dad was predeceased by his parents Jack and Mina, sisters Selena and Dema and brothers Dave, Les, Bob and Gordie. He is survived and will be remembered by brothers George and Jim, children Vaughan (Leslie) and Brandee (Carl),their mother Marjory, grandchildren Braden, Stephen, Alana, Zoey, Jeremy, Heaven, Joseph and Dakota and many nieces and nephews. Dad was born in Winnipeg on May 25, 1933 and was raised in the North End. He was very aware and interested in the ethnic diversity of the North End and was truly happy to see that diversity well represented by his care givers at the H.S.C. We would like to thank all his caregivers for their many unending and unquestioning kindnesses during his stay and we would like to thank his personal nurses Diane and Peggy. Dad moved to Charleswood with his parents in 1943 and lived in four different homes all at the south end of Coventry Road over the next 69 years. He started a railroad career with the C.P.R. from 1951 until 1962 and then worked as a civil servant for a few years until the strange allure of the railroad brought him back. He hired on at the C.N.R. in 1974 and retired in 1996 as a locomotive engineer. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed duck hunting and fishing the Netley Creek area. For the last seven years of his life he was an active member of AA. His insights were most helpful to the recovery of others. Being able to help others was of great value to his own recovery. Cremation has already occurred and the family is not planning a formal service at this time. Those who knew him are asked to remember him in a way that is meaningful to their relationship with him. His remains will be interred with his mom, dad and brother Gordie as per his wishes.

We are so sad to hear of Uncle Hap's passing. Somehow he was so much larger than life we never thought we'd lose him. Vaughan and Brandee and families, our thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Linda and Cory Mireau, Bruce Alexander and Jason Marsh (BC nieces and nephews) on: Mar 03, 2012

I am so very sorry to hear Hap is gone. I cannot think of childhood days without the Alexander clan. He certainly was one of my father's Best friends..the 2 of them and the annual bathtub races...sheesh. Trips down the rail tracks in the old meteor station wagon with the air out of the tires all the way to Portage La Prairie. The parties and snowmobiles and finally the day I lost my Dad, there u were Marj and Hap the first one to me at the funeral. He was called Hap for a reason and no other father would have given the memories you have. Cindi - Posted by: Cindi French (Family Friend) on: Feb 27, 2012

I've only known Don a few years now as I was canvassing for heart & stroke. He was always very kind when I came to the door and we always had a very good visit and catch up when we saw each other. Of late, my work at the church connected with him again, enjoying his company as he prepared for his meetings, loyal to the cause, appreciative for those connections in the meetings and wanting to make a profound difference in other's lives as he had come to in these past 7 years. He made me feel special everytime I'd seen him and realize the blessing he was to his end. My condolences especially to Vaughan, Leslie and family. - Posted by: Nancy & Russell Jeffrey (Neighbour) on: Feb 19, 2012

Please accept my condolances on your loss. Don was such an inspiration and had the ability to share at a deep level his understanding of the program though he often downplayed the fact. We've all lost a dear friend. He will forever be remembered in my heart. Bev - Posted by: Bev thomas (AA Friend) on: Feb 07, 2012

I am very sorry for your loss. We also will miss him at the cwood camel group. He helped us all, with his wisdom and knowledge of the program. He picked it up fast and shared so well. He really has made a difference to so many, including myself. We know he is now at the "big meeting" and right at home. I'm sorry once again for your loss.
