JACK WEISS It is with deep sorrow that our family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather Jack Weiss. Jack leaves behind his wife Sara (Sue) of 61 years, his sons Stephen (Cheryl) and Jerry (Audrey), and his grandchildren Macey, Jenna, Mallory, Lauren, Josh, and Marlee. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Sam and Cecil Victor, and Beverley Potasky, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was born in Beregaszasz (Bergovo), Czechoslovakia on April 5, 1930. He lost his mother at an early age and had a very difficult childhood. This was followed by the traumatic experience of the Holocaust, which took his entire family. Upon his immigration to Canada, as an orphan, with the help of the Canadian Jewish Congress, he worked as a furrier. This was followed by his ownership of taxis with Veteran's Nash and Duffy's. Jack also owned various businesses, most notable of which was Dairyland Ice Cream at the corner of Anderson and Main. This was followed by employment with the City of Winnipeg Transit. In 2005 Jack, together with his wife, wrote his autobiography Memories, Dreams, and Nightmares to share his experiences, so that the Holocaust would not be forgotten, for which he won a Canadian Jewish book award. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the Etz Chaim Synagogue and at the Rosh Pina Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harold Silverman, Murray Palay, Yale Shaffer, David Friedman, Sean Shore, and Michael Victor. Honorary pall-bearers were Saul Spitz, Mickey Hoch, Sidney Blum, and Frank Weinfeld. Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Jack's angels at the Sharon Home Senior Care Alzheimer's Unit. Amongst the staff of wonderful care givers, we would like to thank Sara Reid, Carla Kehler, Susan Deacon, and many more too numerous to mention. Our family would like to acknowledge Dr. Pacin for his compassion, care, and attention to the very end.

Dear Susie: Just found out moments ago about Jack's passing. My deepest sympathy to you and your children and grandchildren. It has been a long good-bye. May Jack rest in peace and hopefully you will only remember the good times. When we visited Winnipeg when my girls were young, the high-light of the day was when my Dad took them to Jack's ice cream store and he made them feel very special! Lots of love. - Posted by: Sandra Kuttas (Susie's cousin) on: Feb 11, 2012

Knew him since his arrival in Winnipeg almost 60 years ago. He lived with our family, the Mazo's for a while. Found him to be a fun guy to be with. Our condolences to the family, and remember all the good times you had together and he is no longer suffering his illness has caused him and the Weiss family. - Posted by: Montie and Barbara Mazo, Stanley and Lynne Friedman (friends) on: Feb 08, 2012
