ANN DERKSEN (nee FRIESEN) October 9, 1925 - February 2, 2012 With her family at her side, Ann peacefully slipped into the arms of the Lord. She is now reunited with her husband Henry, daughter Phyllis, brother Henry, and parents John and Aganetha Friesen. She leaves behind to celebrate her life and cherish her memory her children, Ken (Robyn), Dennis (Kathy), Debbie (Marcel), DeeDee (Alain); her grandchildren, Christine (Doug), Elise, Kendra, Colleen (Owen), Steven, Natisha (Jean-Guy), Holly (Darrel), Joshua (Samantha) and Jillian, and her great-grandchildren, Justin, Kelsey, Chance, Teddy, Micheal, Braxton, Riley, Janique, Zajac and Finnley. Although mom wasn't a social butterfly she touched the hearts of many people by keeping busy working and volunteering in the community and surrounding area. She gained countless friends and acquaintances working at the rink canteen, the community hall bar, the hotel restaurant and Gray's Inn. She was also a long term member of the Marais Ladies group and volunteered at the Ebenezer Home in Altona. Mom also took in boarders for many years and she would affectionately call them adopted sons . In the past few years, one of her favourite pastimes was going to Barnay's Restaurant to help the staff out however she could. Her favourite task was doing the dishes and the entire staff referred to her as Nana. Mom will also be remembered for her baby blankets. Those handmade blankets have ended up as gifts to countless babies and have been sent away as far as the United Kingdom and Australia. Blankets by Nana were custom made by her for each child with the same care and love she had for her own family. Although mom lived in Altona for a short period, she found that those few kilometers were too far from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her heart was in Letellier with her loved ones and that was truly where home was. A very special thank you to those who have been there for mom. Kathy, Anne, Eva, Betty Kay and Edna, your friendships were very cherished by her. The family would also like to thank Dr. Prinslou and the nursing staff at the Altona Hospital. We know that you are happy to be reunited with Dad and Phyllis and we have no doubt that you are now another angel looking after us from above. We'll miss you mom. The funeral service honouring Mom will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Altona United Church. Interment will take place at the Altona Cemetery. Lunch to follow in the Altona United Church basement. Wiebe Funeral Home Altona Ltd. in care of arrangements.
