MYRNA MAGGIE GOOLCHARAN (SOOKRAM) 1936 - 2012 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Myrna Maggie Goolcharan on February 5, 2012. Myrna is survived by husband Lawrence (Harry), five children, 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, two sisters, and one brother. Predeceased by daughter Lisa, parents, two brothers, and one sister. Born in Trinidad, married Lawrence in 1954, they immigrated to Winnipeg in 1967. She was employed as a Nurse's Aide in Victoria and St. Amant Centre Hospitals then worked at Walterwoods but foremost a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to all. Best known for her offbeat humour, famous cooking, constant cleaning, infectious laugh and helping everyone (family and friends), the only way to keep her still was to give her a baby to hold. She was truly a unique, loving individual to anyone who had the chance to be with her. The family would like to thank all the staff at Meadowood Manor, Doctors, and all the Winnipeg Health Authority staff for the wonderful care and dignity given. A Celebration of her Life will take place on Sunday, February 12 at 1:30 p.m., at Bardal Funeral Chapel, 843 Sherbrook St. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Myrna's memory to The United Way.

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • I have read these comments many times and thought about what I would like to share with the masses. It is one of the first times in my life where I am unable to express myself with clarity. The ache I feel for the loss of my grandmother, an inspiration and guide in my life, can be compared to none. She showered me with love and acceptance and made me believe that I had a place in this world with a purpose. She rejoiced in my every victory, no matter how small, and comforted me when I felt discouraged. She was unbelievably beautiful from every angle, from inside to out... I know I will miss her till my very last breath and hope that she has found peace. ~x~ - Posted by: Lisa Goolcharan (Grand daughter) on: Nov 11, 2012

  • My grandma is one in a million. She always was laughing and smiling her beautiful smile. She would look after me and my brother when my mom had to work two jobs. She made every moment very memorable. It's hard to realize that she won't be there anymore. It is very calming to know that she will no longer be in pain and is now at rest. Love you with all my heart Grandma. - Posted by: Linnea Tavener (Granddaughter) on: Feb 10, 2012

Every Sunday dinner with family all around her as she prepared us a great curry chicken and roti meal and always ice cream for dessert. I can hear her laughter and see her smile as she enjoys having us all together.
