FRANK BLANARU It is with great sadness that the family announces Frank's passing on February 7, 2012 at the Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg. Frank leaves to mourn his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Bianca, his sons, Louis (Janice) and Chuck (Blair), seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Dina in 1998. During the Second World War, Frank met Bianca in their hometown of Bucharest, Romania. Frank and Bianca survived the Nazi's attempt to exterminate the Jews of Europe and relocated to Winnipeg in 1950 where they made their permanent home. He loved his wife and family, made the best of opportunities, was a good provider and ensured that each of his children received a University education. Frank voiced strong opinions, had a sharp sense of humour, loved playing games and was a hard worker. He was employed at the C.P.R. for over 30 years. In addition to working full-time with C.P.R., he also helped Bianca in the operation of various restaurants. Frank also moonlighted as a painter and taxi driver. After retiring from C.P.R., Frank worked at Army-Navy Surplus on Donald Street and then for his son Louis at a pharmacy. He was an exceptional athlete in his younger years and carried on a love affair with sports of all kind his entire life. He also had a soft spot for animals and was known for bringing home many stray cats and dogs. Frank supported his community through volunteerism and charitable giving. He was a proud donor to the Endowment Book of Life through the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba. Frank volunteered at the Shalom Square Pavilion (Folklorama) for many years and regularly attended Shabbat services at the Chevra Mishnayes Synagogue. Frank was very thankful for the opportunities and quality of life that Canada provided him and his family. The family wishes to thank Dr. N. Hechtenthal and the nursing staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital 5th floor, Ward 4, for their care. A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 10 at 11:20 a.m. at Hebrew Sick Cemetery.
