SAMUEL JOHN HOFER December 31, 1921 - February 8, 2012 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Samuel John Hofer on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Grace Hospital at the age of 90 years. Left to forever cherish Sam's memory is his loving and faithful wife Emma, of 59 years of marriage; children Sam Jr., Rick (Edna), Doreen (Garry), Phil, Ben (Lorraine), Mark, and Edna (Geoff); as well as fondly remembered by his many grandchildren: Holly, Allary, Wade, Joe, Jason, Derek, Chris, Chelsea, Natasha, Charlotte, Stella, Malachi and Declan. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Lynda. Sam was a cautious man, but one who was never afraid to follow his convictions. A man who felt he must leave the safety of the Hutterite Colony with a wife and eight young children to an unsure future; albeit one he felt would be more rewarding to all of them. Sam rarely wavered in his convictions, and his firm belief in a loving and generous God guided him throughout his long life. Sam will always be remembered for his earnestness and sense of fairness; qualities that helped to enhance and cement the relationships of those he loved, who were many. He walked through life with dignity and never failed to provide for his family. At the end of his long life, though a disease took away almost all of his memories, he never failed to proudly recognize his beloved wife Emma. On Sunday, February 12, 2012 Sam's Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Grace Christian Church, 50 Barnes St., Winnipeg. The family would like to thank the staff at the Charleswood Care Centre for their wonderful care and compassion.

I and my three daughters lived on the south peace colony as a neighbor, Peter Tschetter and family took us in, lived on the separate parcel of land, but was twined with the colony, Mike and Sarah Hofer, and the senior, Peter and Mary Hofer, we knew very well, love the colony and the people, they are very genuine, and they still visit my home in Dawson Creek, where I now live, we have heard and read about the junior Sam Hofer, gentle prayers be with the family, - Posted by: donalda elliott (neighbour of the south peace colony, who lived with peter tschetters family) on: Apr 14, 2012

Sam was always a pleasure to have conversation with over a cup of coffee. He was a man with an "easy-going" personality. Sam will definitely be a great asset in the age to come. - Posted by: Randy & Margaret Fisher (friends) on: Feb 16, 2012
