I woke up this morning at 3:00 a.m. It is the first morning of the 2014 Sochi Olympic games. One of my first thoughts was to Greg and the times we shared at the InterAm ski racing camp. Greg was the head coach for the Manitoba team and I was the camp director. Greg always brought a group of competent ski racers to the camp and we all became good friends. I googled Greg's name this morning and am overwhelmed by the sad news. I will miss you Greg. Your honesty, competency, knowledge of things we shared and enthusiasm to help others have left a legacy. It had been too many years since we last met but I always felt your fellowship. My best to your family. - Posted by: Tom Page (friend) on: Feb 08, 2014

I was shocked and certainly saddened to hear about Greg having passed away. He was a good friend to me at a difficult time in my life. Life events take us all over and apart but I will always remember some fun times out at Springhill. My condolences to your family Greg. You will be missed and thought of often. Just discovered Greg's passing after trying to call his home phone number. My condolences to Greg's family and friends. I met Greg in 1968 while attending the same high school in Clavet, SK. We were both new to the area and the school so quickly became best friends. Greg was an intelligent guy with a big heart and a passion for life. We shared an apartment for a few years in our 20's and it was then I realized Greg had a natural gift of all things mechanical and was not afraid to tackle any job. I know he was a good father to his boys and a good friend to anyone who got to know him. I will miss the long conversations and our endless discussions about automobiles. Rest in peace Greg. - Posted by: Barry Lovegrove (Long time friend) on: Aug 16, 2012

Greg will be so sadly missed and yet so appreciated for all his efforts within skiing, his family and life overall. On any given day of great skiing and powder, we call it "God Snow". I am deeply saddened and shocked to hear of Greg's sudden passing. Unfortunately, I am unable to attend his funeral due to other commitments. Greg was a great guy who did not deserve to pass away so suddenly in such a manner. I remember Greg as being a extremely hard working, conscientious guy and loved his family. I want to thank you, Greg for teaching my husband how to fix the cars, be his role model and attribute your values onto him as I feel you had taught him well. I know that my husband, Terence looked up to Greg as mentor aside from being his eldest brother. Greg was quiet but when he had something to say, he said it. I wished things were different for him and I as I didn't really know him in the last 10 years. I remember when my Terence lived with Greg for a while at his house on Victor St. and had some fond memories there. I remembered that social we went to for his Ski Club and I won that big case of frozen pastries. Oh my goodness don't know how we polished all those off; good thing we have a big family. I remembered Greg working out in the gym at Sargent Park pool while I was taking aquacize classes, He'd stop by and talk to me. That was too funny when I asked him to come join the class and he said no. I remember he brought his ski school students to BC to ski and had a several of them stay at our house in Surrey one year. Those poor kids they looked so uncomfortable sleeping all over the living room. I know that he was very proud to finally have his children although they were born late in life to him. I do know that all Greg really wanted was someone to love and have a family of his own. I wished he was still alive to enjoy his sons longer and wished we were closer. Love always your sister in law Nola Kwiatkowski :) - Posted by: Nola Kwiatkowski (Sister in Law * Married to Terence Kwiatkowski * ) on: Feb 15, 2012

Greg and I went way back at the Wpg Ski Club. He had a passion for skiing, that if you didn't have it yourself, you caught it from him. He was instrumental in having the MB Ski Division allow me, a disabled person, ski with the normal racers, even FIS. While I was on the National Disabled Ski Team, he kept me going and improving, keeping me mentally strong, even though, sometimes, I wasn't chosen to go to the big international events. Watching him strive to obtain his Level lll Coaches, set the bar for determination in a fellow skier and coach. When the Masters' Ski Racing Club was starting, Greg was there, in the forefront, making suggestions, no, telling them what we needed to succeed. He got the club to allow me to join (for more practice) even though it was for retired racers, initially. Greg, I will miss our conversations, late at night, and I know you are now at peace now. God bless you and keep you.....see you on that slope, when I get there. Orel, your buddy. - Posted by: Orel Kiazyk () on: Feb 15, 2012

Greg, Your train came into the station, the destination unknown, you boarded it anyway as you felt right at home. It moved so very quickly and carried you with mercy and carried you with grace and took you on a journey to your final resting place. Love, Cynthia - Posted by: cynthia (friend) on: Feb 15, 2012

Again another passing has happened in this family; I always remember my uncle as being a quiet man, but a strong man. He was the role model for all of my other uncles as well as my father who loved him dearly, and my two aunts. Although I've never said I love you to my uncle, he knew that my sister and I care about him endlessly.. and he will always be missed and loved by many. - Posted by: Rachael Kwiatkowski (Niece) on: Feb 15, 2012

I first met Greg in 1991, while both of us were trying to achieve the highest level of ski coaching certification. Greg did not succeed at the time, but every year thru amazing dedication and hard work, he succeeded later in May 2007. Wow, I guess if you were one of Greg's athletes at that time, that was your model of dedication and passion. Greg was a silence leader. He was one of the first to introduce coaches from Winnipeg to the coaching profession and fraternity across the country. Since then, Manitoba is full of great coaches and ski racing is in full progression. Rest in peace, ski every day up there and my condolences to your family. We will miss you my friend. - Posted by: Pierre Ruel (Technical Director of Canadian Ski Coaches Federation) on: Feb 14, 2012

I Worked a lot of trips with Greg. He Loved the Railroad, he Loved his job, but he hated coming to work. He would rather be on the slopes. R.I.P Greg - Posted by: Charlie Brow ( Conductor / Work Mate) on: Feb 14, 2012

I've known Greg for many years being a neighbour to Carla and the kids. The love they shared will never be replaced. My heart goes out to Carla and the children at this time. Greg will rest in peace knowing he left behind such a strong woman to raise his boys and guide them. Peace be with his family at this time. Greg, my Brother-in-law, came into Montreal with my sister, Nena, many years ago. During their trip via CP Rail, they saw Montreal in the winter. This was the time Greg introduced me for the first time to downhill skiing. I have been skiing downhill ever since. Thank you, Greg. - Posted by: Randy Hargreaves (Brother-in-law) on: Feb 14, 2012

I give my sincerest sympathy to the family and friends of Greg. We all will miss him very much. To my close and dearest friend Greg: You have been my best friend for over three years. You have been a kind and caring person, always worrying about everyone else before yourself. Greg loved his boys dearly and would have done anything for them. He was a very intelligent man and when I needed any advice he was always there for me. You would have to know Greg to know that his bark was worse than his bite. I admired his courage and strength throughout the term of his illness. ~God saw him getting tired, And a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around him and whispered, "Come with Me." With tearful eyes we watched him suffer And saw him fade away Although we loved him dearly, We could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, Hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.~ - Posted by: Brenda Braun (best friend) on: Feb 13, 2012

I was a friend of the Kwiatkowski's from an early age. We were an extension of the Kwiatkowski family, as that is how they treated everyone they knew. I know that they are feeling the loss of Greg, but take peace in the fact that they know he is no longer suffering, and is with God. God Bless you all love Iona - Posted by: Iona Holland (Friend of the family) on: Feb 13, 2012

We knew Greg for many years with the ski club, when Jeff was only 10 years old. Greg spent hours of time with all the skiers, we will always remember those days on the ski hill. He will be missed.
