EDITH MARGARET COGGAN Peacefully with family by her side, Mom went home to be with Dad on Monday, February 6, 2012, at the Betel Home in Selkirk, MB. Mom was born in Stonewall, MB, on May 11, 1922, one of four girls and six boys of William and Gertrude Louisa Hirst. Mom was predeceased by her parents and her many siblings. On May 27, 1944, Mom married the love of her life, Ralph Coggan, and became a farm wife. They enjoyed 55 years together before Dad died on February 4, 1999. They are survived by two daughters, Geraldine Coggan and Marjorie Anderson; four sons, Jim, Blair (Janet), Bill (Sheila), and John; eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. The family has lost their matriarch. Mom was the first of five generations of women in our family. Mom loved her sports: hockey, curling, football, and in her youth was a competitive speed skater. She also played hockey into her forties. Until recent years you could count on her being at the rink when the four generations of grandkids were playing. In recent months, Mom was mostly bedridden because of osteoporosis. She had a merry heart, and a great soul. She didn't have to endure a long and painful passing. She took a turn for the worse in the early hours of February 6, and left us quietly at 12:30 p.m. of the same day. The family is so grateful to the outstanding caregivers at Betel Home for their loving and competent care of Mom. Their love and concern for the dignity of the human spirit made Mom's stay at the Betel Home as good as it could be. Mom requested a private funeral with family and close friends. Viewing was at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 9 at the MacKenzie Funeral Home in Stonewall, followed by a graveside at 2:00 p.m. and interment in the Stonewall Cemetery. Lunch followed at the Anglican Parish Hall in Stonewall. MacKenzie Funeral Home in care of arrangements. 204-467-2525
