GLEN JOHN MATTHEW LOVERIDGE 1939 - 2012 It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Glen Loveridge. After a long battle with cancer, with his family by his side, Glen passed away at Riverview Health Centre on Friday, February 10, 2012. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 47 years Barbara, daughter Karen (Paul Bartlett), son John and daughter Anne (Michael Machnicki). His grandchildren Kirsten, Spencer, Mackenzie, Rachel and Carmen were his pride and joy and held a very special place in his heart. He is survived by his brother, Dale (Joan) of Ottawa, their children Patricia (Lee), Russell (Katarina) and Peter (Cindy), his brother-in-law, Bob Carter (Irene) of Winnipeg, their children Jeremy and Christopher, his Aunt, Ruth Dobbin of Pinawa, along with many cousins and their families. Until the age of 12, Glen was raised in Old Pinawa, Manitoba. The Loveridge family then moved to Winnipeg when the power plant at Old Pinawa closed in 1951. In 1961, Glen started teaching in Emerson, Manitoba, and in 1964 began his career at Silver Heights Collegiate, where he taught physics and chemistry for 30 years. Glen will always be remembered for his love of nature, travelling and fine wine. He enjoyed spending the summers at the family cottage at Nutimik Lake. He and Barbara travelled extensively all over the world. One of their most memorable trips was to Kenya and Tanzania. Until his illness, Glen was always very active: he was a walker, gardener, swimmer, curler and putterer extraordinaire. Glen was a devoted husband, father and grandfather; he was a true family man. The many friendships he and Barbara made over the years were also very important to him. Although Glen faced many challenges in his final months, he met each one with resolve, courage, dignity and managed to maintain his unique sense of humour. We would like to thank the staff at the Health Sciences Centre Neurosurgery Department and CancerCare Manitoba. We would also like to express our appreciation to the palliative care team and staff at Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate care; in particular special thanks to Dr. McClure, Dr. Volpe, Rick and Cheryl. A memorial service to celebrate Glen's life will be held on Friday, February 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., at St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Road, St. Vital. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9, or the Riverview Health Centre Foundation, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3A 1M5. To live in the hearts we leave behind is never to die. Rest now in peace, Dad.

We had the privilege of meeting Glen at Peter and Cindy's wedding last June 2011. He made us feel very comfortable, and with talking to him he was very much a family man. He shared stories of his teaching, travels, and above all his family. Our sympathy to Barbara and all the family on your loss. He will be greatly missed. Ken & I are so sorry to learn of Glen's death. It seems so long ago that we initially left the province & over the years our paths diverged. I will always remember with great fondness our friendship and times together that began through the CGIT camp! We remember Glen's gentle but always humorous and good natured friendship. Our hearts go out to you and all the family for your loss. - Posted by: Ken & Marilyn Sime () on: Feb 16, 2012

I was a student of his in Emerson in the 60's and I have to say he was one of the best teachers we had to grace our halls. We were such a small school and I beleive the challenges were huge for teachers there. He inspired us! - Posted by: Judy Meraw () on: Feb 16, 2012

To Glen's family. We are so sorry to hear of Glen's passing. We always remember him for his smiles, his positive attitude and for his great caring for his students and colleagues. Overall, he was a just a absolutely great guy to know and work with. We can recall so many fine days and experiences of the times when we worked together - particularly at Silver Heights. He always so willing to share his knowledge with his fellow teachers so that the students always benefitted in the end result. We will continue to remember him fondly as being such a very fine person. Gary and Patricia Hamilton - Posted by: Gary and Pat Hamilton (teaching friends) on: Feb 16, 2012

Glen and I went through school together and remained friends until distance separated us. In 1962, my brother Allan and I took a trip with Glen to the Seattle World's Fair, creating memories that Allan and I still talk about on occasion. Condolences to Barb and all the family. - Posted by: Ted Whicker (Old friend) on: Feb 16, 2012

I remember when Glen decided to leave the town of Emerson. It was the first and only time I remember the student body petitioning the school board and the faculty to keep him at our school. To this day, some forty years later I still regret that we were unable to convince this gentle giant of a man to stay in our little hamlet. I am sure Glen would be more than pleased to see how many of his students succeeded in life by following the examples he set forth. - Posted by: Marvin Koizumi (past student) on: Feb 15, 2012

Mr. Loveridge was one of my teachers in high school, back in the 60s. He had the challenge of helping me understand chemistry! He was a gentle, caring, dedicated person, who influenced me as I became an educator. I only hope that I treated students as he did, with respect at all times. I am so sorry that he struggled with cancer at the end of his wonderful life. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, and my thanks go to you Mr. Loveridge. - Posted by: Brenda Cleverley Wedlake (former student) on: Feb 15, 2012
