E. KARL FARSTAD November 22, 1921- February 14, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Elmer (Karl) Karleif Farstad at the age of 90 years. Karl was born in Trondheim, Norway to his parents, Johan and Anna. Karl immigrated to Canada in 1925 and grew up in Winnipeg's West End. He was predeceased by his siblings Jessie, James, Betty and Mabel. Karl joined The Norwegian Air Force in Little Norway in 1942. He underwent extensive training and eventually became a Spitfire pilot, an accomplishment he was very proud of. Throughout the course of his lifetime, Karl would often share stories and memories of his time in the Air Force with both his family and friends. Karl was proud of his Norwegian heritage. In 1948, he met the love of his life, Muriel. After a brief courtship, they were married. Together, they shared 63 years of love, laughter and wonderful memories with their girls, their grandchildren and their closest and dearest of friends. Karl was well-known in Winnipeg as a highly-respected real estate appraiser. He established a successful company, E. Karl Farstad Associates Ltd. Karl's work was of the utmost importance to him. It brought him a great deal of joy on both a personal and professional level, so much that he retained some clients well into his 80s. Karl will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Muriel; his daughters, Corinne Savoie, Brenda Hillman (Donald) and Karla Farstad; his grandchildren, Cindy (John), Aynsley and Thurston; and his great-grandson, Nicholas. The family would like to express our sincerest thanks to the staff at Misericordia Place (MP2) for their loving care, and for allowing Karl and Muriel to be together for their last chapter in marriage. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with interment and reception to follow.
