JAMES (JIM) BARRETT HASLAM 1926 - 2012 Peacefully after a lengthy illness, our Dad and Grandfather passed away at the Victoria Hospital on Saturday, February 11, 2012. Saddened by his passing are this three daughters, Peggy Haslam, Dawn (Denis) Courteau, Diane (Norm) Lambert, grandchildren Patrick (fiancee Jaime Malanchuk), Lauren and Lyndsay Lambert and Kenneth Courteau. Dad was predeceased by his wife and our mom Norma (2001), infant son Ross (1955), his parents Walter and Kathleen, siblings Merva and Bill. Dad's early years were spent in Fort Garry. After moving to Winnipeg, he met our Mom while delivering newspapers. They were married in September 1950 and celebrated 50 years together, residing in St. Vital. Dad worked for 40 years at C.I.L. Paints, as well as many years part-time with Metropol Security and Winnipeg Enterprises at the Winnipeg Arena and Stadium. Dad loved any sports but especially the Bombers and Jets. Many special summers were spent at the family cabin at Grand Beach. Dad was a Mason and volunteered his time driving cancer patients while dealing with his own illness. The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. I. Maxwell and his caring Oncology staff at the Victoria Hospital for their professionalism shown towards our parents over the past 23 years. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 18 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Road. Private family interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society Manitoba Division would be appreciated.

  • I knew him as Jimmy. He was always smiling. Quite often he was located in the Bomber Office entrance or in the Foyer of the Blue and Gold Club. He always had a comment to make and words of optimism for the Bombers. He was truly one of a kind. My sympathy to his family and friends. - Posted by: Ted Bartman (I knew him as an wpg stadium security attendant) on: Feb 17, 2012

  • I have many memories of Jimmy & Norma when I visited Winnipeg as a teenager and then as an adult. Grandpa Gray & Auntie Babs would put me up in Norma's room and then later in their apartment. A visit with Jimmy & Norma was always tops on the list. Once married my husband Martin and I saw Jim & Norma quite a few times and greatly enjoyed Jimmy's sense of humour and both of their hospitality. It is sad to see the older generation leaving us but hopefully we will keep in touch as step families. Our condolences to all, Martin & Dorothy Foley - Posted by: Dorothy Lindsay-Foley (Step Niece) on: Feb 16, 2012

  • I think what I will remember most about our Uncle Jimmy was that he was always smiling. Our sincere condolences to our cousins and their families. He was a genuinely nice man. xo - Posted by: Cindy and Dean Neubauer (Neice) on: Feb 16, 2012
