LUBA MANASTYRSKY It is with great sorrow that the family of Luba Manastyrsky announces her passing on February 15, 2012 at Holy Family Home. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 22 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor Street with Fr. B. Lukie, C.Ss.R. officiating. LUBA MANASTYRSKY September 24, 1925 - February 15, 2012 It is with great sorrow that the family of Luba Manastyrsky announces her passing on February 15, 2012 at Holy Family Home. Luba, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at the age of 86 years. Luba was predeceased by her husband Ivan (John) Manastyrsky; sons-in-law, Orest and Norm, nephew Roman Manastersky and her brother Alexander (Ukraine). Luba is survived by her son Peter (Helen), daughters Irene Skinkoway and Marusia Konowalchuk; seven grandchildren Peter Jr. (Breanne) Manastyrsky, Tanya (Antin) Muzyka, Larysa (Jason) Care, Normen Konowalchuk Jr., Orest (Megan) Konowalchuk, Christina and Andrew Skinkoway; seven great-grandchildren, nephew Lou Manastersky (Marilyn); Roman's wife Evelyn Piush; as well other family members in Ukraine and many friends. Luba was born in Dneprodzerzhinsk and was a Holodomor survivor of the 1932-33 man-made famine in the Eastern part of Ukraine. At a young age, in April of 1942, Luba was forcibly deported to Germany to work in a labour camp, where she met Ivan (John) and married. After the war, Luba and Ivan (John) immigrated to Manchester, England to start a new life together. In May of 1951, Luba and her late husband and son (Peter) came to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. Luba will always be remembered as a devoted mother to her children, Baba to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took great joy in guiding her children and grandchildren, instilling strong family values and the importance of Ukrainian culture and tradition. She insisted having family gatherings at her home on many occasions. Luba enjoyed her time at Bird's Hill Park on Sundays with her friends. She was a member of Ukrainian Canadian Institute Prosvita and a longtime member of Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral. The family would like to extend gratitude to the special staff at 4A Holy Family Home and to Dr. T. Babick for the heartfelt care. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 22 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor Street with Fr. B. Lukie, C.Ss.R. officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, and in remembrance of Luba, donations may be made to the Holy Family Building Fund at 165 Aberdeen Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R2W 1T9 or Manitoba Riding for the Disabled Association at 145 Pacific Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2Z6.
