KATHY JOY ILG (nee NEUFELD) 1960 - 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear wife, mother, and daughter, Kathy Ilg. Kathy is survived by the love of her life, John Ilg, to whom she was married for 32 years; son, Bryan (Melissa); and daughters Kelsey and Jessica. She also leaves to mourn her father, Harry Neufeld (Deanna); sister Bev Epp (Ken) of California; brother Ken (Kristine) of Australia; nieces Melanie Charter (Sean) and Jil Cadouri (Hadar); and nephews Joshua, Sam and Ben. Other close family who loved her include, Elly and Vic Janzen (Aaron and Danae), Vic and Karen Ilg (Jeffery and Daniel), and Hilda and Marty Malchuk. To her family and friends she was the best. Kathy was predeceased by her first mother, Hildi Neufeld, her second mother Susan Neufeld and her sister Debbie. Kathy loved to be with people, especially her family. She had many best friends. She was a natural at organizing get-togethers and activities, and the more people the better. She was a great cook; so many of our favorite memories involve great food events. She loved gardening, so every summer the yard became a magical forest. She was active in school and church functions, enjoying times with many friends in her book and knitting clubs and choir. Kathy was a stay at home mom as she could not think of a better place to be than with her children. When they got older Kathy's love of being with people led her back to school and a job as an events coordinator at C.N.I.B. She was loved by many clients and volunteers and staff at C.N.I.B. Kathy loved to travel even when she was fighting cancer, and she spent time that year with family in California. She managed to spend a great week in Chicago with its great shopping, which she so enjoyed. She also enjoyed the blessing of having her family from around the world join her for an extended Christmas celebration at our home. Kathy had a quiet faith which she radiated to others. Her assurance in an eternal life in the arms of God was solid. She met her disease with the courage of a warrior. The staff at the Health Sciences emergency and palliative care and at CancerCare were outstanding and we cannot thank them enough. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Lung Association or C.N.I.B. The funeral will be held at Douglas Mennonite Church on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. with interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Viewing at the Church prior to the service.

When one looks back at life and looks at the people you remember, special people, people who were shining stars, it is Kathy I remember. Kathy was so present in her life, the life of her children, her family, the school where I met and worked with her, and in the community. My deepest sympathies to your whole family, John, Bryan, Kelsey and Jess. What a tremendous loss - and far too soon. I am deeply shocked and saddened by the passing of Kathy. She was a student of mine at Red River College in the Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults Day Program. I want the family to know how much - and how often - she spoke of you. She shared with others that you were her pride and joy - her family. She also shared her strong faith and deeply rooted confidence in Her Lord. May God watch over you and comfort you in the days ahead. My prayers are with you. I will never forget the time spent with Kathy and the joy of knowing her. Heaven is blessed with a golden Angel. - Posted by: Shelley Kopeschny (Red River College Instructor) on: Feb 22, 2012

I am fresh out of the public school system and while I've been looking for employment, I've been attending the leisure peer groups that Kathy helped to put together. I attend the walking, choir, bible study and Friday morning groups, which Kathy along with others promoted to clients who weren't familiar with them. I've made many new friends--friends who are visually impaired, just like me--friends who know what I'm dealing with each day, something that truthfully, no fully sighted person could know as they've never been visually impaired. Thank goodness for that. It's great to have a support network of caring friends like the friends I've made at CNIB, all thanks to the peer groups that Kathy helped organize. I was one of the people who was in the Free Press in 2010 when the CNIB's Winnipeg office staff went on strike. I supported the CNIB's staff in getting the things they were asking for, and at some of the client impact meetings us clients held at a nearby office on Portage, I met people who've since become my friends. I've no doubt that her funeral service today will be one that would've made her proud had she been here to attend it. My heart goes out to her family, close friends and colleagues at CNIB. I didn't know her too well, but from what I gathered from talking to her a few times was that she cared a lot about us clients and was all for making a positive difference in the lives of others. - Posted by: Ana (A CNIB Client who Benefited Greatly from the Peer Groups she Helped to Organize) on: Feb 22, 2012

I am so very sorry for your family's loss. Kathy will be terribly missed by the knitting group at the CNIB of which I belong to. I am glad I got to know her over the years. She was such a great person, so very kind and patient. I remember back in November how she was so looking forward to her family coming to visit and then later in January hearing about all the fun that she had with her family. I will never forget her. - Posted by: Chris Ross () on: Feb 21, 2012
