  • LIKE SISTER GRACE,WE WERE SADDENED TO HEAR OF DON'S PASSING AND I TOO HAVE FOND MEMORIES OF THE MANY SUNDAY VISITS OUT TO PORTAGE AS WELL AS ALL THE TIMES DURING DUCK HUNTING SEASON....DON AND I ALSO SHARED THE SAME BIRTHDATE, JUNE 16 TH. THEREFORE HE WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED ON THAT DAY FOR SURE BUT ALSO FOR HIS CHARM AND HIS LOOKS AND JUST BEING THE GREAT GUY THAT HE WAS. WE LOVED HIM DEARLY AND HE WILL BE MISSED. YOU ARE ALL IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS... - Posted by: MAVIS AND JOHN GLOCKLER (BURKE) (COUSIN) on: Feb 26, 2012

  • Don was my senior by nine years. When my mother was carrying me and they discussed what the new baby's name would be, Don insisted that I should be called George after our father and If I was a girl I would be called Georgina...I would have preferred Georgia. [But that's a different story]. He was adamant and George it was. When I was about 18 mos. old He renamed me after one of his comic strip characters "Lil Jughaid" sic, a character in the Soapy Smith Barney Google comics. I have been forever grateful for that monicker being contracted over the years to "Jug" and I have carried that name for 74+ years. Thanks Don, for giving me the honour of carrying our Dad's name and the distinction of a life-long nickname. You were a good brother and I will miss you. JUG - Posted by: George A. • I was deeply saddened to hear of Don's passing and my thoughts and prayers go out to you all at this sad time. I have many fond and wonderful memories of Don growing up in Portage. Auntie Mae, uncle Geoge, Jug and Don came out many weekends and our little house was full of activity. I can still see it all.I remember Don decided not to wash his hair for a year as he heard it was good for the hair and scalp but never heard if he lasted that long. I will always remember Don as I used to admire him so, for he was such a well grommed good looking handsome man. - Posted by: Grace Jackiw nee Burke (cousin) on: Feb 25, 2012

  • When I think about how long we have been friends it is hard to wrap my brain around 52 years...I have always felt in my heart that Don was like my second dad when I was growing up, when he spoke we listened...I will cherish all of the memories I have of Don and the whole family. Gone but not forgotten, my deepest sympathies to the 6K's you are all in my prayers. Love to all of you, Belinda xoxo - Posted by: Belinda Phillips (Family friend) on: Feb 25, 2012
