GERTRUDE CHOCHINOV It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we share with you the passing of Gertrude Chochinov. On February 25, 2012, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, she passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, life-long partner and friend Louis Chochinov, her son Bruce Chochinov (Toronto) and daughter-in-law Sheila, daughter Adrian (Aydel) Chochinov-Givelichian (Saskatoon) and son-in-law Laurence, grandchildren Allen-Vikram, Kiran, Lexi and Gabi. She also leaves to mourn many nieces, nephews and friends. Gertie's life journey began in Stepan, Poland on May 15, 1929. She moved to Canada in 1935 with her mother Rae, her brother Norman and her sisters Ruth and Evelyn, reuniting with their father Charles in Winnipeg. She married Louis Chochinov in May 1951 and they shared a deep and ever-lasting love for over 60 years. Their love and respect for one another is an inspiration to their children and grandchildren. Throughout her life she worked in the insurance industry and at other vocations. Her greatest roles, though, were as spouse, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She was an accomplished artist, an avid bridge player and expert scrabble player. Her patience, warmth and hospitality were legendary. She was the most positive of people and the most wonderful friend to all. Funeral services were held February 25 at Etz Chayim Synagogue with burial at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bruce Chochinov, Laurence Givelichian, Allen-Vikram Chochinov, Sid Minuk, Barry Chochinov, and Kyle Smith. Honourary Pallbearers were Les Grant and Morris Kirshner. The family wishes to extend their deep gratitude to the numerous dedicated and compassionate home care attendants and nurses, as well as the wonderful staff of the St. Boniface Palliative Ward who helped our family in Gertie's final days. Gertie will be forever missed and always in our hearts.

Gertie was a great mentor. She lived her life honestly and sincerely. I loved talking to her and felt so close to her, even though our calls were long distance. We will truly miss her. - Posted by: sandy and eli kogut (second mom) on: Mar 01, 2012
