MILDRED LILLIAN KOPEC (nee PAYJACK) August 28, 1947 - February 26, 2012 With profound sadness, our family announces that heaven has received its newest angel, Mildred Kopec. After a third, most brave and valiant, battle with cancer, she peacefully passed away after a loving day spent with family and friends. Mildred's spirit will live on in the hearts of all she touched. She leaves behind a grateful family, George, husband of 44 years, son, George Jr. (Lori-Ann), daughters, Patricia and Angela, adored grandson, Jakob, and numerous extended family members. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Anne Payjack, and mother-in-law, Frances Kopec. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Mildred married George in 1967 and started their lives together and raised their family in East St. Paul with the loving support of their family nearby. Mildred was not only supportive of her husband's businesses but actively involved in many aspects. Well known in the community for her volunteer efforts over numerous years in sports and recreation associations. As well Mildred enjoyed being a participant in activities from figure skating, softball, curling as well as the senior club's activities. Everyone who knew Mildred recognized her true unselfish gift of caring and giving to others. Family meant the world to her and she would drop anything to assist any member, most notably caring for her parents in their final years. Many enjoyed the pleasure of her cooking and baking, most prominently her special perogies. She treasured her time with friends, whether chatting on the phone, going for coffee or adventures with the Red Hat ladies. One of her greatest joys was being actively involved with her grandson's life. Mildred's legacy of generosity, thoughtfulness and compassion will live on in our hearts and actions. Prayers will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg MB on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Holy Trinity Church, 6297 Henderson Hwy, Gonor MB on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire a donation in Mildred's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

I remember Mrs. Kopec living on Manlius right by Robert Andrews. I went to school with her kids. We always used to see her around Birds Hill. I remember when I was a teen and she worked at the Esso.. we'd go there to rent movies when she was working. She was well liked. Birds Hill and Manlius won't be the same without her. - Posted by: rachel cherwinski (friends of kids) on: Aug 19, 2014

I decided to look up Mildred after approx 30 years. I am very saddened to learn that she has passed. I had such a special friend in her way back when I wired for her at the Ranch House Restaurant on Main Street. She was such a great friend snd boss, ghat even went to court to support me during my divorce. Had I known she was ill ..I would have been there for her. Sadly we lost touch. Please know that I held her in high regard and thought of her often. R.I.P. Although I haven't lived "close" to my cherished Auntie Mildred in decades she remained my "closest" aunt. As a little girl she occupied the place of princess in my heart as I still remember her shimmery engagement dress and swooped-up hair as she twirled around a room with my Uncle George. They adored each other. And that never changed. She was the aunt with the great hair who was wildly involved in her kids' activities and did them, as she did everything, from the right place—her heart. And speaking of hearts, hers was that of a lion—large, loyal, constant, dependable, tough. I never, actually, thought it would quit. She was truly always there, for everyone. I am just sooooooo sorry I wasn't there, at the end, for her. So very sorry. P.S. Aunti M, I have one more bag of your perogies in my freezer. A moment ago I looked at them. Even in the chilly glow, I felt your smile. And heard your laugh. I helped you make them so many times but I never scribbled down your recipe . . . I think I always thought you'd be there to make more. Remind me when I see you, to take better notes! The planet is less of a special place without you. I loved you very, very much. You knew that right? - Posted by: Deb Cummings (A lucky niece) on: Mar 02, 2012

Her smile was ever present, her plum perogies the best, egg noodles - wonderfully amazing - how did she make them to taste so great. Her love for her family undeniable. Her love for me - I am blessed for having been held by her. - Posted by: Michelle Schlosser (long distance relative) on: Mar 02, 2012

Although I only had the pleasure of meeting Mildred once, this was all it took for her to make a lasting impression on me. (have to mention the Perogies, World classed). From having the pleasure of working with her daughter Patricia, I already knew that she was a wonderful human being, a loving mother who instilled true moral values in her kids, as Pat is a true testament to her mother, as she embodies all of these values. Mildred was indeed a very special lady, truly loved and cherished by her family. She can go in peace knowing that she left a positive imprint on this life and those that she came into contact with, leaving behind a wonderful legacy. Rest in peace Mildred, you will be truly missed. Stay strong Kopec family. - Posted by: Mona Codner (Friend of daughter Patricia Kopec) on: Mar 02, 2012

My family and myself are saddened to hear the news of Mildred Kopec,... It seems so long ago that along the street of Manlius (off of Hoddinott Ave.) in East St.Paul... Us kids in our generation would all play together...whether it would be playing hide & seek, sleepovers, snowmobiling or just plain havin fun,...Mrs. Kopec would not be too far away to make sure we didnt get into trouble ( which alot of times we did )...She was a strong hearted lady ...And she will be missed by many ! Sincere condolences by,... Joyce Barron and Family ... - Posted by: Bridget Barron (Neighbors for many years ....) on: Mar 01, 2012

To my Auntie Mildred, You were always fun to be with and your "surprise visits" to the farm were a highlight and that you operated on "Kopec Time" and stayed late into the day or days. You will be missed but you will be remembered. Love you so much, You flowergirl, Anna Kopec - Posted by: Peter Ziorio and Anna Kopec (neice) on: Feb 29, 2012
