ROGER JACOB DYCK October 12, 1939 February 24, 2012 Dad and Grandpa passed away in St. Albert, Alberta after a short illness. Roger was born in Morris, MB to Jake and Elsie Dyck. Grades one to 12 were spent happily in the local schools, after which he trained as Lab and X-ray Technician in Winnipeg and Souris, MB. He was then employed by the Selkirk Hospitals until retirement. Roger and Doreen (Komarnisky) made their home in Selkirk and raised a son, Christopher and a daughter, Laureen. Rog was a friendly, gentle man who loved reading, beautifying his big yard, and woodworking with his wide array of tools. He enjoyed curling and golf, and for some time played hockey for the Selkirk Heart Attacks. For many years he helped coach Chris's hockey and baseball teams. Special times with Laureen included driver training and restaurant dinners each Wednesday to keep in touch when they lived in Winnipeg. In Edmonton, his most precious hours were spent cheering on his three grandchildren as they played hockey and golf, and took part in various activities. Left to mourn his passing are Doreen (Komarnisky); son Christopher Dyck and Brenda with children Ryan, Jessica and Mackenzie; daughter Laureen Dyck and Deon Wysocki; sister Dolores and John Lohrenz; as well as many relatives and friends. The Interment in the Morris Cemetery and a reception celebrating his life will take place at a later date in Winnipeg. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff in Unit 18 at the Sturgeon General Hospital. Their care and kindness was certainly appreciated during this difficult time. • My two daughters have been living in Saint Albert for several years, and although I heard that Roger was living there, I wasn't able to arrange a meeting on any of my short visits, which I very much regret.... My condolences to his family; I really would have liked to meet you and shared stories. - Posted by: Garth Krastel (friend from Morris and Souris... ) on: Jan 21, 2020

  • I remember his many visits to my dad's place in Selkirk. they were good friends. A nice man who was shocked by my dad's sudden passing. - Posted by: henry kinast (friend) on: Jun 13, 2015

  • Our condolences to Roger's family on his passing. He was our neighbour for about 10 years and was greatly missed when he moved away. My fondest memories will always be of our impromptu garage parties and Roger's hospitality. Roger was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Schaefer Family (Neighbours) on: Mar 03, 2012

  • I wish to convey my sympathies and condolences to the family on the recent loss of their dad and husband. I never interacted with Roger that much during high school; he was a year ahead of me. I do remember that he was very popular with the other students, especially the girls. Roger was always dressed to the "nines". I know he will be sorely missed. • My condolences to Roger's family on his passing. I was struck by what a caring family surrounded Rog in his time of need, and how much he enjoyed them all and they enjoyed each other. Rog was a funny, lovely man and it was easy to see why he was surrounded by such a loving family. Wishing you peace & strength in your time of need. - Posted by: Sarah Moldaver (RN - Sturgeon Hospital) on: Feb 29, 2012
