ELEANORE MALEGUS Peacefully on Tuesday, February 28, 2012, with her family by her side, Eleanore passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 80. Born December 12, 1931, in Winnipeg, MB, Eleanore was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Michael; her mother, Ann; father, Anthony Penziwol; and her twin brother, Rudolph. She leaves to mourn her passing, her four children, Michael Malegus and partner Scott, Mandy and husband Horace Smaczylo, Jackie Malegus and partner Bev, Audrey and husband Maury Malchuk. Nanny also had three grandchildren whom she adored, Sabrina and Dustin Smaczylo and Gillian Malchuk. Eleanore and husband Mike had a number of businesses in their time together; most notably they owned a restaurant in Grand Marais for 26 years. For almost three decades with their four children working at their side they operated a true family business. Mike's Bar-B-Que and the Malegus family were at the heart of the Grand Marais/Grand Beach community. Eleanore will be remembered for her devotion to family and the fact that she always took great care to remember birthdays of even the most far removed cousins, nephews and nieces. Her love of animals both domestic and wild ensured the house was always full of chirps, meows, barks and chatter. Her good cooking and sharp wit made her a good friend to all and in true good North End spirit, she always welcomed friends and strangers through her door and at her table, especially at Christmas. Miss Ellie's final years were devoted to her family and her grandchildren in whom she was especially proud of and despite her failing health, took every opportunity to spend time with. We would like to thank the nurses of Unit 2 5B for their amazing compassion at Seven Oaks Hospital in her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the D'Arcy's Animal Rescue Centre, 888-2266. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 4 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 5 also at the Church with Fr. Isidore Dziadyk, OSBM and Fr. Zachary Shwaluk, OSBM officiating. Interment will follow in Bird's Hill Pine Ridge Cemetery.
