Date of Passing: Feb 28, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER CHRISTOPHER BOWES After a brief battle with cancer, Peter Christopher Bowes passed away peacefully on February 28, 2012. He leaves to mourn his son Paul, daughter Debra (John), sister Paula (Allan), three granddaughters, one great-granddaughter, and a niece and nephew. He was predeceased by his wife Erika and sister Margaret. Peter was born on December 21, 1931 in Islington, North London. During the Second World War he was evacuated to various parts of England and Ireland. At school he excelled in history, giving him a lifelong passion for the subject. Following his national service with the army, Peter had a brief marriage and two children, Paul and Debra. After the marriage ended, Peter settled in Winnipeg and met his soul mate, Erika. They were happily married for 40 years until her passing in 2005. Peter had many interests such as travel and cooking, but history was his passion. Peter was a classically trained chef but saved his culinary skills for friends and family. He had various jobs including inspector at the Grand Rapids Dam, but ultimately enjoyed a 32-year career as a bylaw inspector for the City of Winnipeg. Peter had wonderful friends who were always there for him when he needed them. Weekly breakfasts with the guys were a highlight for him. Peter was a member of the Irish Association of Manitoba, Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans, and the City of Winnipeg Retirees Club. Thank you to all the nurses on 5E for their wonderful care, and to best friends Peter Johnson and Garry McCormick for their compassion during Peter's final days. There will be a memorial to celebrate Peter's life on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 7:00 p.m., at the Irish Association of Manitoba, 654 Erin Street. Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice.

Gerry and I are saddened to learn of Peter's passing. We only met Peter about a year ago but feel like we've known him a long time. Peter's stories, intelligence and charm made him a very interesting and likable fellow. We enjoyed dinner with him at his favourite restaurant, Rae & Jerry's, and Peter joined our family for Easter dinner last year. Our condolences to Peter's family. Peter will be missed, but never forgotten. Susan and Gerry Rogers - Posted by: Susan & Gerry Rogers (friends) on: Mar 06, 2012
