Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Baba was an amazing woman, strong, loving and oh so funny! Our lives are better having had her in them. She would say I was stubborn because I had a little of her in me and I'm so thankful for that and the wonderful memories we have of her. We'll miss her but we will never forget her or ever stop loving her. We know she is happy because she's with gido again. - Posted by: Lisa and darin smith (Granddaughter and grandson-in-law) on: Feb 15, 2014

  • We are so saddened to say goodbye to Mom / Baba. Our children found it special to be allowed to call her Baba, which was a new word for them – and clearly a word reserved for a special relationship. Pauline and I have fond memories of staying up at the farm numerous times over the years, including: weeding a very small portion of the biggest home garden we had ever seen – wearing the classic farm overalls (!), enjoying the biggest bon-fire, and most of all, listening to Baba’s stories and enjoying her authentic Ukrainian cooking that she had spent hours preparing with such joy. I can tell you in all honesty we never went hungry at the farm! In addition to all this, Baba always treated us so well, making sure that we had everything we needed at all times, that we were comfortable, and that we felt at home in her home. We loved sleeping upstairs, where, as you walked up the steep carpeted staircase, you felt like you were taking a walk up into the past of the Wagner family history. Our eldest daughter Joni, the only one old enough to remember these precious times at the farm, had the special privilege of baking with Baba, and we will always treasure the picture of the two of them cutting out donuts together on the kitchen counter and deep-frying them – they were the best donuts ever!! Our two younger children, Wesley and Addie, unfortunately do not have memories of the farm, though they have heard many stories about our wonderful times together, and fortunately had the opportunity to meet Baba during our Christmas visit to Winnipeg in 2010. Baba, we all miss you, and we remember you as a very unique, exceptional and strong woman. We will forever treasure the special times we shared. Our sincere condolences to all family members. - Posted by: Steve and Pauline Babulal (Steve is Pete Wagner's brother-in-law) on: Mar 12, 2012

  • I remember coming to Fisher Branch as a young child to the farm and Auntie Doreen taking us to the barn and she would milk the cow and squirt milk at the kittens in the barn. She was a wonderful lady. Very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Kathy van der Vis ((her brother Michael Smith was my Grandfather) Lillian Summers is my mother) on: Mar 07, 2012
