VIOLET GETTY With great sadness the family of Violet Getty announces the passing of their beloved Mom, Grandma and Nana, who will be greatly missed. At the age of 84 years, Violet passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, March 13, 2012. Left to forever cherish Violet's memory are her six children, John (Kim), Teresa (Jim), Tracy (Mike), Toni (Rick), Patrick, Jeffrey, and a great number of grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband John and their infant son Robert. Violet was born March 10, 1928, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Richard and Lilian Canty. Her favourite pastimes were reading, listening to music and spending time with her family. The last chapter of mom's life was made more enjoyable by her many friends at Lindenwood Terrace. Her positive outlook on life and sense of humour was shared with all. A Celebration of Mom's Life will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in Church of the Rock, 1397 Buffalo Place.

Hi Grandma. It’s been now been 12 years since you have left us. Our family hasn’t been the same since you died. I know you’re with Jesus. I can’t wait to be with you one day in Heaven. Our family has completely fallen apart since you’ve passed away…. No more big Getty family together but instead we are met with discord and petty pride induced by an inability for the elders in our family to lead as you did. You always brought us together but without you, no matriarch our family is left broken. Tara and Mom both left the church. I almost died last year and not a single family member reached out. Grandma you were the only person in the entire world that loved me and I wish I would’ve spent more time with you at the seniors home. Nevaeh’s almost all grown up now. You would be so proud of her grandma. She’s absolutely beautiful. I’ve been sober for over ten years now…. I even went back to graduate high school and earned my position as validictorian and graduated top of my class out of 204 people. However that still want good enough for mom who continues to paint me out to be a villain no matter how hard I try. If you are looking down on me grandma please help me to succeed. I love you and I can not wait to be with you again. You’re the best grandma in the world. Love forever and always Jenna - Posted by: Jenna (Granddaughter) on: Oct 28, 2024

Mom it's coming on 5 years since you left us and not a day goes by that I don't miss you or wish I could talk to you. The horrible sadness has finally given way to a dull sense of loss but the hole in my heart remains. I miss you so much my little momma! - Posted by: Toni Sutherland (Daughter) on: Jan 16, 2017

Words fall short of expressing my sympathy to all the Getty family. Your mom was a great lady and I know you will cherish your many beautiful memories forever! - Posted by: Cathy Starr (family friend) on: Apr 05, 2012

I remember both of your parents as a very young child (about 7 yrs of age, 1963ish). Your father gave my mother (the late Rose (Grealey) Tiderman) away in marriage Sept. 17, 1955. My Mom totally loved your parents, her Aunt Candy and Uncle Johnny. I remember both of them with smiles, laughter and the love of family...Cherish her memory with the same. - Posted by: Laura (Tiderman) Pyatt (Great Niece) on: Mar 20, 2012
