Date of Passing: Mar 10, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN LOUISE LEE Helen Louise Lee born April 17, 1930, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2012 while residing at South East Personal Care Home. Daughter of Dorothy Helen Weald (born 1904 in the Tower of London) and William Charles Houghton (died 1943 in the Battle of Tobruk), she survived the bombing of London and moved to Canada with her mother after the war. Opening a letter from Alexander Leonard Lee, she decided to meet him in Nova Scotia and they married on April 23, 1949. Jigger re-enlisted into the Canadian Army and from then on Lu was a Military Wife . Their story found its way into the local newspaper under the title Somehow Love Will Find A Way . She organized a school library for the children; marched with the Red Deer Royals for the children; and donated to organizations in Africa for her many adopted children. She always supported those she could along her journey in life and tough love was sometimes a part of that support. Predeceased by her husband Alexander, son Christopher, and grandson Robert, she was just shy of her 82nd birthday. She is survived by her children Steven (Lynda), Peter, Gregory (Kristine), Anita (Claude), and Charles. Known as Grand Mama, by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she will be sorely missed by all. Special mention to her longtime friend Barb and special thanks to all the staff at South East Personal Care Home for their caring and patience during Mom's stay. A private family service will be held at a later date. Accordingly, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association. We pray for God Speed as Butterflies in Love find their way once again to become the fondly loved team of JIGGER AND LU .

My mother, Eileen Weald now 97, my Dad, Graham now deceased and sister Pat lived in our house in London, Ont. with Dolly and Lu after we all came from England in 1948 and on. Other friends came and 20 or us would play canasta around a big round table. Saw this table again in Winnipeg when I visited Lu and her family when our daughter Mairi was 6 months old & Lu made potato soup which I still remember. Fond memories or our years together. Please contact me. Pam. - Posted by: Mrs. Pamela Handley (nee Weald) (Cousin ) on: Feb 03, 2013

Lu and Jigger, a team I will never forget. My favourite memories of you are from my days in the beginner band and 'Regals,' with Jigger teaching us and Lu handling everything in the band office. Thank you for everything. Love from your favourite baritone player. You are both badly missed! - Posted by: Kolin Murray (friend, Royals member) on: Apr 04, 2012

On behalf of the Red Deer Royals Marching Show Band, I pass along our sincere condolences to Lu's family. Jigger and Lu were a part of another family during their time in Red Deer, and that was the Red Deer Community Band Society. Lu and Jigger were both strongly and inseparably committed to our community bands during Jigger's tenure as Director of Bands from 1978 to 1991. Our alumni have many fond memories of Lu, who was always there in support of Jigger's work with the bands. Their collective contributions to our bands and our community will never be forgotten. I will always remember the bus trips with the Royals and her English candies! She was a truly great lady who always had a smile on her face. - Posted by: Tracy (Duce) Fitch (friend, long time Royals member) on: Mar 18, 2012

Jigger and Lu. You can't say the name of one without thinking of the other. What a great team they made. Amazing people who gave a lot of themselves to help kids, whether it was with music or anything else they needed support with. She has left quite a legacy Chuck. I can't say her name without a smile coming to my face. RIP. - Posted by: Larry Mousseau (Friend) on: Mar 18, 2012
