Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUGLAS JAMES GRIEVE Passed away on Monday, March 12, 2012, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Salmon Arm, B.C. He is missed and will be remembered by his wife Elizabeth, daughters Kim (Glenn) Salmon Arm and Laurie (Dana) Vancouver; sons Doug (LaRae) Winnipeg and James of Salmon Arm; grandchildren Joey Ringaert and Scott Grieve, Winnipeg and Jack and Kate Verdurmen, Salmon Arm; and his faithful cat Charlie. He was predeceased by his parents Alex and Blanche and his brother Art. Doug was born on August 17, 1936, in Souris Manitoba, where he spent his first four years prior to the family move to Winnipeg. In his late teens he moved, along with his parents, brother Art and sister Joyce to St. Vital, where he continued to reside until recently. After leaving school, he was employed as a C.N.R. Locomotive Fireman until he contracted polio in 1958, which left him with physical limitations. When he was able to return to work he was employed for 35 years by Hayes Dana Inc. (Dana Canada) until retirement in 1996, as Regional Manager. Doug's determination to overcome many challenges throughout his life, without allowing his disability to define him, was always a source of inspiration and encouragement for his family. Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears, but laugh and talk of me as if I were beside you. Twas heaven to be here with you, I loved you so. -Isla P. Richardson Love you Dad/Grandpa. Never more than a thought away. In keeping with Doug's wishes, no formal service will be held. Online Condolences can be sent through Doug's obituary at www.bowersfuneralservice.com

I also had not seen Doug for many years but remember him fondly as a true friend and mentor. He always "told it like it was". I don't think he ever told me what to do, but shared his knowledge freely, to help me find my way. To this day when I'm not sure how to deal with a situation I ask myself what Doug would have done. I am very thankful to have known Doug and want you to know the esteem in which he is held. Rest in peace, my friend. - Posted by: Al Mowat (former work colleague) on: Apr 16, 2012

I always enjoyed our impromptu conversations as we crossed paths in our shared driveway. Mr. Grieve was a kind and good neighbour and it was a pleasure to grow up next to him and his family. My condolences to Mrs. Grieve, Laurie, Doug, Kim and Jim. - Posted by: Don Head (Former neighbour) on: Mar 21, 2012

My family and I echo the sentiments of others in this forum. You couldn't have found a nicer gentleman than Mr. Grieve. He led an honourable life and raised an outstanding family along with his wife, Liz Grieve. He faced many adversities over his life but you never heard him complain. He will be remembered fondly. - Posted by: Bill Head (Former Neighbour) on: Mar 19, 2012
