Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDANIEL MACLEAN BARCLAY October 26, 1921- February 28, 2012 Danny Barclay passed in his sleep at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Residential Care. He was born in Winnipeg, heir to the strong Scottish work ethic of his father, George of Aberdeenshire. After a stint in the army, Dan became employed by the CPR. In 1947, on a short vacation to Victoria, he wrote I quit on his CPR family rail-pass, dropped it in a mailbox and thus permanently moved out west. Dan found lifetime employment at the HMC Dockyard and assisted with Esquimalt Legion Boys Pipe Band. His family enjoyed happy days at Fork and Cameron Lakes, and camping trips on the west coast. Danny was an excellent judge of character. While vacationing in Hawaii, he asked a beach goer to keep an eye on his belongings while he swam. This small trust became a lifelong friendship with the Niko Niko gang of Ala Moana Park. Danny was a grateful pensioner and praised the services that helped him enjoy life. Self-driven optimism saw him through life's challenges, such as the loss of his wife Marj, son Larry, father George, mother Flora (from P.E.I), sister Ruth, brother Bob and sister Ada. He will be missed by his surviving children, Janet and Andrew, sons-in-law Michael, daughters-in-law Annette, and his grandchildren Brooke, Paul, David, Scott and Megan. We would be so lucky to have inherited even a fraction of your extraordinary charm, wit and determination.
