GORDON WILLIAM MOFFAT February 16, 1959 - March 9, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, brother, son, grandfather, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend at the age of 53 years and 21 days. Gordon was born in The Pas, MB, to William Fredrick and Mabel Doreen (Thomas) Moffat. At home, sister Susan Marie and brother Neil Ernest completed the family. He attended school in The Pas, graduating in June, 1977. Gord excelled at and won recognition for Drama and Debating while in high school. He enjoyed playing minor hockey, winning a trophy for Best Defenceman. He also enjoyed golf, baseball, and curling. After graduation, he attended the University of Manitoba for a year. From there, he started his career as an Insurance Claims Adjuster for Manitoba Public Insurance in The Pas. He transferred to Morden and then to the Winnipeg Head Office. This career spanned 17 years. In 1995, the opportunity to start Gord's Deli in brother-in-law Bill's convenience store, brought him to Neepawa. After 42 years of bachelorhood, Gordon met and married Elaine Osborne on September 16, 2000. Elaine's daughters, Crystalena and Gemma, completed the family. They soon became Gordon's daughters too. He was honoured to have them call him Dad. Gordon and Elaine owned and operated Gord's Deli until it was sold in 2004, when Gord semi-retired, but continued to manage their rental properties. An avid sports fan, Gordon was thrilled to see his Boston Bruins win the Stanley Cup last year. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity brought the Stanley Cup itself to town with Shane Hnidy. He was a true-blue Bomber fan and also cheered for the Vikings. His other passion was riding his Harley. He and his hog covered many miles of road. Gordon is survived by his wife Elaine, daughter Crystalena (husband Abdul and son, Abdula); daughter Gemma; father Bill Moffat; mother Mabel Fulton (husband Al); sister Susan (husband Bill Chartrand and children Deanna (son Dylan), Curtis); brother Neil Moffat; Aunt Lorraine and Uncle Lorne Fife; Aunt Lillian Henderson; Uncle Norman Mason; cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents Ernie and Olive Moffat; Audrey Moffat; Arthur and Sarah Thomas; aunts and uncles; cousins and friends. Gordon loved all his family and friends. His life was centered around them. He was well loved in return. We will miss him more than words can say Rest in Peace. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, March 17, 2012. At Gordon's request, cremation took place with interment at Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa. Anyone wishing to make a donation in his memory may do so to the Humane Society. White's Funeral Home, Neepawa, in Care of Arrangements.

In 1974 I took Gord and Gerald Kennedy to a debating championship. I was extremely pleased at how these two boys from The Pas overcame adversity to win four out of four debates. I was going through my scrapbook and found this sad story. He was too young but this proud teacher has his memory forever. - Posted by: Greg Clark (Teacher) on: Feb 26, 2021
