HELENE LEPP December 7, 1939 - March 17, 2012 On Saturday, March 17, 2012, surrounded by her family, Helene passed away in St. Boniface Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Left to forever cherish Helene's memory are sons Thomas (Michele), Richard, Andrew (Evan); grandchildren Erin, Heather, and Christian who she adored; brothers Otto and Edwin Mandau; family friend Hilde Harzan, and numerous friends and relatives throughout Canada and Europe. She was predeceased by her husband Wilfred. In 1939 Helene was born in Poland, and lived in Germany until 1956 when she immigrated to Canada. She married Wilfred Lepp in 1962 and together they raised three boys. Helene's love of swimming lead her to a career with the City of Winnipeg Parks and Recreation Department, where she developed many deep and lasting friendships, especially with the crew from Bonivital Pool, and later with co-workers from the Winnipeg Public Library. She also enjoyed dragon boat racing with her friends from Chemo Savvy. Helene had a strong faith. She loved to garden, and enjoyed her summers at Granite Lake, going for walks, swimming, picking blueberries and mushrooms. She was a constant source of quiet strength; her loving and compassionate nature will be greatly missed by her friends and family. On Wednesday, March 21, 2012 Helene's Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in Lutheran Church of the Cross, 560 Arlington Street. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors who took care of Helene, especially the staff of 5E who showed exceptional compassion and professionalism. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or the Cross Memorial Fund.

Just learned today (March 24) of the passing of Helene. We knew Helene as a warm compassionate friend who cared deeply for those around her. Her beautiful Christian convictions were an outward expression of the inner peace and love she knew with God. Sympathies are extended to her family, her brothers, Otto (Selma) and Edwin and especially dear friend, Hilde Harzan. - Posted by: Bob and Vi Jacob (Long time Friends) on: Mar 24, 2012

Helene was a remarkable individual: selfless, patient, hardworking, and kind. I worked with and for Helene for several years as a lifeguard for the City of Winnipeg. She was very good at her job and was wonderful to work for. Helene came to work in a cheerful mood and her quiet disposition made her likeable to everyone. She was always smiling. Helene loved her job and her cottage, and most of all, I would add that she loved to swim. She always made time to do a workout before or after her shift-alone and with friends. In the summer I liked to join her in the pool. Helene will be missed by many and her passing is a real loss for everyone who knew her. My sincerest condolences to her family and her Bonivital friends. - Posted by: Kim Johnston (Co-worker) on: Mar 20, 2012
