The stories I remember about "Pete's" (the corner store) that every kid in Fort Rouge grew up with. I bet Pete could have written a book about that store. As a child I remember swiping $10 from my mom's purse and going to Pete's and trying to buy a 25 cent box of smarties. He had every kids phone number and it wasn't very long before my oldest sister Pat showed up to take me home with the $10 in her pocket. I wonder how many times I heard put your bottles on the floor and not on the glass case (candies). I spent many $$ having a soft drink in the store and shooting the breeze with Pete. Sometimes the drink was on the house. Pete was a great guy and very generous. Pete Jachetta wasn't just a store proprietor. He was a neighbourhood friend who I grew up with. Reading Pete's obit conjured up many good thoughts about when and where I grew up and how many of us were lucky to have known this kind person. RIP Pete !! - Posted by: Randy Heatherington (Friend) on: Mar 24, 2012
