NANCY FEHR April 21, 1934 - March 8, 2012 Nancy Joan Fehr (nee Premachuk) went to be with Jesus on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the age of 77. She is survived by her son James, daughter Candace (Rick) and grandson Josh as well as her sister, Stella of The Pas and sister Eva, of Ottawa. She was predeceased by her husband Harold in December, 2003. Born on April 21, 1934, Nancy was the youngest daughter of Gregory and Matrona of The Pas, Manitoba. After completing high school, Nancy arrived at Clear Lake, Manitoba for a summer waitress job at the Park Luncheonette. A handsome lifeguard named Harold Fehr came in for a Coca-Cola and ended up with her heart. In February 1957, they were married in Winnipeg. In 1962 they had a daughter Candace. As a centennial project, they moved the family to Calgary in 1967. In 1969, they added James to complete the family. Along the way, Harold convinced Nancy to pursue Teaching and she completed Normal School in 1954 and a Bachelor's of Arts from the University of Manitoba in 1975. Nancy enjoyed a long career with the CBE eventually retiring from Captain John Palliser Elementary. She continued to substitute teach until May 2009 when, at 75 years young, illness caused an end to the career she loved. Wife, mother, grandmother and friend of many talents, Mom was an ever-gracious hostess, entertainer and homemaker. Her passion for shopping ensured that themed decorations were at hand for every occasion, along with fresh ingredients to make the guest's mouth water and coffee or tea took just a moment to prepare. Springtime meant planting season. Her efforts seemed to always create a yard full of blossoms in high spring that became the envy of passers-by well into autumn. This passion for gardening was duplicated with colour and beauty bursting in both the front and back yards at Clear Lake. In her spare time, Mom enjoyed going out with the girls for coffee and finding a great deal on fashion or home accessories. Mom loved the Calgary Flames, tuned in to every Championship Ice Skating event on TV and treasured her volunteer time during the 1988 Olympics and with Hockey Ministries International. Mom and Dad traveled extensively - Britain, France, Holland, Germany, Italy, across Canada and well down the Pacific coast with her passion for photography creating a documentary to share with those at home. In later years, Mom came on Spring Break outings to Florida and cruises in the Caribbean. As her only grandchild, Josh and Mom had a special place in each other's heart. They spent many a day at the Calgary Zoo, baking in the kitchen or watching hockey. However it was the summers together at the cottage that had Mom and Josh driving the countryside in search of local festivals, garden centers or antique events. Mom will be missed by us all but we've all been enriched and made fuller by the many memories that we'll hold close to our hearts until we see her again in Heaven. We are grateful to friends, family and all who supported her during her illness and that includes the staff at the T.B.C.C., Unit 46 Foothills Hospital and at Rosedale Hospice - you are special people and we really appreciate you! Celebration of Life to begin at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Hawkwood Baptist Fellowship (20 Hawkwood Drive, NW Calgary).
