ROY LAIRD MCLENNAN 1919 - 2012 Roy, age 92, passed on peacefully April 3, 2012. He joins his wife Pearl, his parents Donald and Mary (Nellie), and siblings Bill, Don, Chris, Mary, Lillie, Steele and Archie. A devoted family man, he will be greatly missed by daughters Linda and Anne, their husbands, Dave and Donn, grandsons Mark and Riley, sisters Grace and Elsie, and 14 nieces and nephews. For numerous years he was a tireless volunteer at Tache Nursing Centre, where his dedication to his wife Pearl was truly remarkable. Born in Saskatchewan near Tuffnell, Roy's family moved to the Birtle, MB area where Roy was raised and attended school. Roy volunteered to join the Canadian Army Service Corps May 20, 1941. He trained as a mechanic and served our country in England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany until his discharge in Canada in 1946. Roy worked as a mechanic for Drevers Auto for eight years and the City of Winnipeg from 1956 until he retired in 1983. He lived on Newman Street for many years followed by McClure Place and Riverwood Square where he took part in many activities. Friendly Roy was an inspiration to all who knew him. He embraced life to the fullest, was always there to help and to brighten the days of others, all the while humming a tune. He had a keen mind, loved learning, reading, chess, puzzles, and was fascinated by local construction projects. He also enjoyed walking, dancing, golf, cards, bingo, curling, and baseball. At his request, his body has been donated to the U of M Medical School and no funeral service will be held. Those wishing to honour his memory may donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of their choosing. Roy, we thank you for everything you've done for us.
