Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVERNA KRUK (nee POSTERSKI) With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing in her home in Winnipeg, of Verna Kruk on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 two months shy of her 97th birthday. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joe Kruk; parents, Mike and Anna Posterski; and her siblings: Frank, John, Stanley, Albert, Sebastian, Catherine, Polly, and Jo. Verna will be lovingly remembered by her son Robert Kruk of Winnipeg; daughter Shirley (James) Pehura of Portage la Prairie; four Pehura grandsons and their families: Chris (Hanh) and great-grandson Titan; Rob (Cassandra) and great-grandchildren Carson and Olivia; Cam (Lena) and great-grand-daughter Mila; and Jon Paul. She also leaves to mourn her passing her sister, Kay Kruk of Portage la Prairie and many nieces and nephews. Verna was born in Alonsa on June 5, 1915 where she received her education. Before her marriage, she worked as a housekeeper on many family farms. During the war Verna worked in a munitions factory in Toronto. She married Joe Kruk in 1948 and raised her family in Winnipeg. Verna possessed a very strong work ethic. She worked in a number of restaurants and drugstores until 1970 and then provided home care until her retirement in 1980. Verna was a member of the Brookland Seniors Group. She was very kind and generous and very patient but at times (often with good reason) she could be very stubborn. Verna found pleasure in being with family, listening to hockey games on the radio, and cooking and gardening. In keeping with Verna's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family burial at Alonsa Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Verna's memory to CNIB, Donations Processing Centre, P.O.Box 32002, Stn. Brm. B, Toronto, ON, M7Y 5R2 or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9, or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba - Portage Office, 103 Wilkinson Crescent, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1A7.
