WILBERT WESLEY (BERT) FINES February 5, 1923 - April 8, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bert Fines at the Park Lane Terrace Nursing Home in Paris, Ontario. Born and raised on a farm in Balmoral, Manitoba, Bert then began a series of jobs that led to a 35 year career in telecommunications with Canadian Westinghouse. Bert and Elinor (Harris), his wife of 67 years, lived most of their married life in the Hamilton area, and have lived in Park Lane Terrace during the last few months. Bert was a quiet, strong, intelligent man who could put his hand to anything from electronics to construction or investments. He enjoyed a great quality of life from Ashigami Lodge in northern Ontario to winters in Florida, cruises, and over a million miles of air travel throughout Europe and the Asia Pacific Rim. A bad fall on December 24, 2010 led to 15 months of challenges, including an acute acquired brain injury, a pacemaker, Parkinson's, pneumonia and congestive heart failure. Throughout this time, Bert retained his sense of humour, his stoicism, integrity, gentlemanly deportment, and his kindness. He will be greatly missed by his wife Elinor, his children Lin and Don (Sherry), his grandchildren - Jason (Cariad), Jamie (Jenna), Ryan (Cristine), Tyler, Daryl, Shaylyn, and Matt, and his great-grandchildren - Nathan, Arlen, Mila and Ava. Special thanks go to Stonechurch Family Medical Clinic, Joy White and the late Dr. David McCann, to Bert's Cardiologist, Dr. Mike Sullivan, and to Dr. R. Williams who managed Bert's medical needs at Park Lane. We are very grateful to Cliff Jackson and the staff at Park Lane, who helped Dad maintain his dignity, privacy, and independence to the fullest extent possible. Dad, we love you, and we admire you. Yours was a life well-lived. A memorial reception will be held at Dodsworth Brown Funeral Home, 378 Wilson Street East, Ancaster, Ontario (905-648-3852) on Friday, April 20 between 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations to Parkinson's, CFUW Brantford Scholarship Fund, or the Alzheimer's Society. An online book of condolences is available to sign at www.db-ancaster.ca
