ELEANOR JOHNSON (nee POWZUN) March 20, 1944 April 20, 2012 After a very brief but courageous battle with cancer, Mom passed away on Friday, April 20, 2012, with her family by her side. Mom will be deeply missed and her memory cherished by her loving husband, Barney and by her children, Cheryl (Blair), Raymond (Leona) and Russell (Wendy), and by her grandchildren, Saveja, Monique, Kaela, Amanda, Scott and Riley. She also leaves to mourn, her sister, Betty Both and her brother, Brian Powzun. She was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Mary Powzun. Mom was born and raised in Finns, MB. She attended school in Finns and in grade nine moved to Gimli to finish high school. On March 3, 1962, she married the love of her life and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past year. Mom stayed home to raise her children and was actively involved in all their activitiesGimli minor hockey, 4H, brownies and etc. When she entered the workforce she started as a receptionist with Dr. Oakley, dental assistant with Dr. Rajwani and a real estate agent with Interlake Real Estate. Mom and Dad also operated the Gimli Taxi for a number of years. Then they started their own company, Bar-El Ent, and contracted to Allied Van Lines. The next 18 years were spent crisscrossing Canada and the U.S. together making numerous new friends from N.F.L.D. to the Queen Charlotte Island and as far north as Whitehorse, YK. After retiring from the Van Line she kept busy with the census, enumeration and cleaning homes and cottages. Mom very much enjoyed their vacations to the Dominican Republic. She was an avid walker, loved biking, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Barney and Eleanore Johnson, two names, two people intertwined by their love and commitment to each other, the family they created and the whole family in which they belonged. Barney knew who his guiding light was and basked in her loving care. Eleanore was focused and worried and cared about everyone in her family. If there was one thing that I felt made Eleanore stand above the crowd it was her unconditional love and support for Barney, Cheryl, Russell and Raymond. If they had a problem; she was their rock, backed by the Iron Man. - Posted by: Jerry Kristjanson (Nephew) on: Apr 29, 2012
