IWAN DUBICKYJ February 23, 1918 - April 23, 2012 With deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Iwan, beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend, who passed away at St. Joseph's Residence on Monday, April 23, 2012, at the age of 94 years. To cherish his memory, he leaves his son Leon and daughter Mary Melmuth (Wally), grandsons Tyler, Derek and Ryan, and many family and friends. Iwan was predeceased by his wife Anne, who passed away December 21, 2011, his parents Olesia and Mychailo, sisters Ruska, Oleska and Anna, and brothers Joseph, Dmytro and Mychailo. Iwan was born in the village of Dobriany in western Ukraine. Before immigrating to Canada in 1950, he lived in Germany, Belgium and France. Iwan settled in Winnipeg and married Anne Filler, his wife of 59 years. He worked 28 years for the Canadian Pacific Railway, retiring at age 60. He enjoyed his retirement years, spending time with his family, and playing pool with his adored grandsons. He also enjoyed nature and travel. Iwan was a dedicated member of St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church, member of Institute Prosvita, and Main Street Age and Opportunity Centre. Prayers will be said on Friday, April 27, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., and Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 160 Euclid Avenue, with Rev. Fr. Len Ratushniak C.S.s.R. officiating. Interment to follow at Holy Family Cemetery. The family would like to express their deepest thanks to Dr. Babick and the staff of St. Joseph's Residence for their all care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, or charity of one's choice.
