EDNA FARGEY September 23, 1909 - April 25, 2012 It is with sadness and fond memories that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Nana at Misercordia Place on April 25, 2012. Left to cherish Edna's memory is her daughter Lorraine (Sims), her grandchildren Graeme (Terry), Glenna (James), Jo-Anne (Rob), Gerry (Jennifer) and her great-grandchildren Amy, Katy, Alex, MacKenzie and Kareena. Edna was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Rev. James (Jim) Fargey, her brother Lawrence Beachell and her son-in-law Lyall Sims. Edna was born and raised in Grosse Isle, Manitoba. After completing Normal School she taught at Gerrie School near Grosse Isle. She married Jim in 1932 and the two of them began their life together. Jim's job as a minister sent them to many charges in small towns in Manitoba where they met many wonderful people over the years and made many lasting friendships. When Jim retired in 1969, they moved to Winnipeg to be close to their family. Edna lived a full and active 102 years. She enjoyed her garden, knitting, playing scrabble, and many hours spent playing solitaire. Every night before bed, she would write in her diary about her many blessings of the day. Her grandchildren will fondly remember Grandma for her smile, the many hours she spent playing games, hiding Easter treats, sitting in her backyard sipping 7-Up floats and telling stories about her childhood. Thank you to the staff of the 3rd floor at Misercordia Place for the love and kindness you gave to Edna. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at Harrow United Church, 955 Mulvey Ave. on Saturday, April 28 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harrow United Church or to the charity of your choice.

  • Edna was a 'corker' (her own word) and she was such an awesome human being. I was lucky to have known her as I grew up around her and her likewise awesome family. She and my gram Alice were bosom buddies and especially more so after both their honey's passed away. When my gram Alice (Stewart) went into the hospital and later passed (2000) I lived at 268 Borebank and got to be her neighbor for 7 years! One of my fondest memories of Edna is going to her place for a visit and her feeding Benny, my mixed husky dog, peppermints (which he sorely needed and did eat :)). Edna and her Family I feel are kind of my extended family. That is how they made me feel. I love you Edna and will remember you always. You had the best impish smile and way about you and had the gift indeed of welcoming everyone and making them feel special and loved. Happy card playing in heaven! • We were married by Jim and have always felt a kindred spirit with Edna & Jim as did my parents John & Dorothy Andrews of Miami. John & Dorothy's anniversary & Edna's birthday, both being Sept 23rd, was a special bond. What we loved most was their genuine & excellent sense of humour. Life was for enjoying. Edna's laugh was truly infectious. She is one of the saints. We are grateful that she has been a large part of our lives. With gratitude, Lloyd & Jeannie - Posted by: Lloyd & Jeannie Baker (Friends) on: Apr 26, 2012

  • Mrs. Fargey and her husband were wonderful neighbours and friends for many years when we lived next door. Edna was a caring, loving and wonderful person, and we loved her dearly. So sad to learn of her passing. - Posted by: Denys & Barb Stewart (Borebank St. neighbours) on: Apr 26, 2012
