BEVERLEY ANNE WHITE (nee FRANKS) Bev White passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, after a valiant battle with cancer on Monday, April 23, 2012. Bev is survived by her husband of 49 years, Lloyd, daughter Kelly Cassie (Bryon), son John (Rosanne), and her sisters Janet Dubas (Bill), and Evelyn Odland (Allan). Also left to cherish her memory are sisters-in-law Joan Franks and Elaine Franks, many nieces and nephews who Bev thought of as her grandchildren, and her lifelong friend Tom Andrews. She was predeceased by her parents Norman and Mary Jane (Janey) Franks, and brothers Bruce and James. Bev was born July 9, 1944, in Winnipeg where she lived her entire life. She grew up in the Morse Place area, where she and Lloyd met; they were together for 54 years. As a youngster she enjoyed skating, and considered herself a tomboy. Bev and Lloyd were married in 1963. In addition to their two children, they were live-in caregivers for a group home of nine children for two years. Bev loved to laugh, dance, sing, camp, knit, socialize, and watch family and friends play sports. She worked at Shoppers Drug Mart and The Bay at Kildonan Place, and developed lasting friendships with many of her co-workers. She was always first in line to put on a costume to promote the store or boost morale. She appeared as an extra in several movies and TV shows. Bev's favourite time of year was Christmas. It brought her extreme joy and she loved all aspects of the holiday. She put others' feelings and needs before her own, and left work in 1991 to look after Lloyd when he had open-heart surgery. She also took great pride in caring for her elderly mother, aunts, and cousins. Bev also volunteered for several years at the Morse Place Community Club. At 60, she realized her lifelong desire to explore her talent for art. She started with watercolour painting, and moved on to acrylics. She showed an innate talent, and she created several stunning works. Bev loved to make people happy, and seeing them smile brought her great satisfaction. Her infectious laugh always cheered those around her. She didn't want to burden others with her suffering, and she stayed positive throughout her life. A celebration of her life will be held at Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. on Monday, April 30, 2012, 1:00 p.m. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Dennis Caners, Dr. Gerald Minuk, Dr. Jeremy Lipschitz, the staff at St. Boniface Geriatric Day Hospital, the staff at the Oncology Ward at Concordia Hospital, and Rose, her guardian angel at Dr. Minuk's office. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
