JEAN AUDREY HEMMING (nee PORTER) (FROST) Following a very full and active life, Audrey passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on April 20, 2012. Audrey is survived by her three children: Rick Frost (son Aaron and daughter Leah) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Nancy Frost (son Marc) of White Rock, BC, Andy Frost (son Morgan and daughter Marley) of Aurora, Ontario, twin sister Jocelyn McRae, husband Allan (son Gordon) of Toronto, Ontario, as well as numerous friends. Audrey was predeceased by her parents Lotta and John Porter, her older brother Doug Porter, her first husband Doug Frost and her second husband Norm Hemming. Audrey was born in 1924 in Winnipeg and attended Robert H. Smith School and Kelvin High School. In the late 1940s, she began raising her family in River Heights. During the 1960s, she worked as a secretary at Air Canada in Winnipeg. In 1972 she relocated to Bray, Berkshire, England to remarry and live, and resided there until the late 1970s. She then moved to Richmond, BC and worked at CP Air until retirement. She continued to live in Richmond until her passing. Audrey was an outstanding Mother, a devoted Nana, and was a woman of integrity, class and dignity. She was honest, generous, kind and trustworthy. She had a great sense of humour, and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Audrey enjoyed time in the garden Playing in the mud , Puddling around in the kitchen, reading, and watching sports on TV; but most importantly, she loved to laugh. At Audrey's request, there will be no service or funeral. Cremation has taken place. The family would like to thank all of the medical professionals at Richmond Hospital. Our thanks to Dr. Yun and his staff, and the entire Supportive Palliative Care Team, who with compassion and gentle kindness, took exceptional care of Audrey in the final weeks.

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • It has taken so long to write this.......... Audrey was my mother-in-law, Great-Grandma to little Jeremy, whom she treasured chatting with on Skype, my confidant, treasured friend, advisor etc. etc. I will miss her laughter, jokes, the tears we shed together, her never-ending love and support, not only to me, but to Rick, Andy, Nancy, her precious grandchildren and for all who knew her. She was always there with her amazing wit, strength, love, and such intelligence! She always knew what to say that made you feel better in times of celebration and times of sorrow and heartbreak. Audrey has a special place in my heart and I will treasure the memories of times we spent together. I know we will all miss her everyday! We are so fortunate to have had her in our lives! - Posted by: Glennis Frost () on: Jun 18, 2012

  • Audrey was one of the most beautiful people, inside and out, I have ever known. She was a true friend, always full of support, love and laughter. She is my idol. I will always miss her but will be forever grateful to have known her. My condolences to all her family. - Posted by: Willie Dunlop (Friend) on: May 25, 2012

  • I have so many wonderful memories of Audrey. She was like a second mother to me as well. From the time that Audrey, Rick, Nancy and Andy moved onto Niagara Street in 1962 until we all moved on to other addresses, Audrey was always ready to take all the children's friends in the neighborhood including me. Many great memories of 472 Niagara Street. Audie, you will be greatly missed by all the people who you've touched and never forgotten by any of us. If only all mothers were as wonderful as Audie, the world would have been an incredible place! - Posted by: Terry Akesson (Friend of the Family) on: May 12, 2012

  • It was with sadness that I learned of the passing of Andy, Rick and Nancy's mother Audrey, or Audey (or sometimes just Aud) as I well remember Rick and Andy calling her. I grew up on Niagara Street and played hockey at River Heights Community Center which is where I met Andy at age 14. Very shortly after, I met Mrs. Frost, or Audrey as I quickly came to know her. I became a frequent visitor at "472" during some of Andy and my more turbulent (understatement) years while attending Kelvin High School. I have the fondest memories of Audrey, who indeed, was a rock of stability. I have no doubts today that her great nature and calming influence played a key role in keeping us in line. She was a very fine lady and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. - Posted by: Neil Luckhurst (Friend) on: May 03, 2012

  • I'm thinking of you Andy. As I never knew your mom, I know she was a wonderful woman to have such a wonderful son like you. All the very best to you and your family during this time. Xoxo - Posted by: Dawn Soloway (Friend) on: May 02, 2012

  • To Nancy, Rick and Andy - so sorry to hear of the passing of your wonderful mother, Audrey. She was a joy to everyone, and a lifelong friend to our Mum, Gerry Major. Our hearts are with you. Val (Major) Williamson - Posted by: Val (Major) Williamson () on: Apr 28, 2012

  • Audy was my second Mom! There was never a conversation without laughter and reminiscence, as Audy and my Mom Nola were lifelong friends, and Audy's parents Lotta and John were also friends with my grandparents Roy and Di. My teenage years would not have been the same without the Frost household being a key central homebase for all of us connected to Rick, Nancy and Andy. There was Audy in her impeccable dress, and apron, always buzzing in the kitchen, always larking with us, enjoying the antics and chaos of life, offering counsel, being the Rock of Gibraltar, and all of us will remember with great fondness her most giving acceptance and love. In her later years Audy got a hold of a computer and the sky was the limit! Endless e-mails, notices, jokes, political perspectives, all part of her nature, the constant warm messages, expressions of her character that will never be forgotten. I will miss this woman of strength and fortitude and always adore her tender core and spirit. - Posted by: Diana Halter (lifelong friend) on: Apr 28, 2012
