Cecil's life took him from Emerson to Winnipeg to Melfort, Saskatchewan, Oklahoma City, Montreal and back to Winnipeg. Cecil and Rae were married in Montreal in 1957, and proceeded to follow the commandment to be fruitful and multiply. Cecil took great pride in his large family. Sold in 2007, the company still operates nationally, under the name Shnier. Cecil spent his last years at the Simkin Centre of the Sharon Home in Winnipeg. In 1974 I worked for the Shnier briefly as a companion for Daniel Shnier. I have a fond memory of Cecil, Rae and all children. Cecil was a kind man, he enjoyed my Thai cooking. He always came home for lunch. His home is a loving place for all. Last time I was in Winnipeg I met Rae, Daniel, Nola, Cynthia (I think) and all their offsprings and I became a grandma! I always think of them and today I happened to check Google and found this sad news although a few years ago but it's not too late to give my tribute to him. I plan to come to Canada again in July 2015 and hope to meet all again. May Cecil rest in peace, his kindness touched my heart forever. - Posted by: Kanchana (Thiensiripipat) Sillapee (Daniel's companion when he was 4 years old) on: Jan 23, 2015

I was with Cecil when he passed away. It was so sudden and unexpected...last thing I did when he pased was sit near his bedside, just sitting there was hard, hard to believe he was gone. Emotions started to build up, and embarrasingly, started to cry. I'm honored to have known Mr. C (Cecil), he was such a gentle soul, and I'm really going to miss him. My mothet (Nila) and I would like to send our prayers and condolences to the Shnier family, especially to Rae. Thank U for giving me and my mother the chance to watch and care for Cecil, and if I could, I would do it all over again. - Posted by: Noel Pascua (companion) on: May 14, 2012

I recall Cecil fondly from my early days in Winnipeg. He was always a quiet, thoughtful, and mannerly person whose genial nature shone through. Reading his obituary I'm reminded of his incredibly large and clever family, most of whom sadly, I have never met. Those who remember him will count him among the righteous. - Posted by: Dan Rusen (Second cousin) on: May 09, 2012

Cecil took on the modern age with excitement and enthusiasm. At an age where many fear and negate new innovations Cecil took on learning them and utilizing them. He took interest in the accomplishments of others and always had questions of you if you were in his home. With Rae at his side their home and Cottage was shared by many including our family.
